Last month, we were honoured to be part of the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural and Sustainable Development - MONDIACULT 2022 held in Mexico City, Mexico 🇲🇽 . Maxxit as an international consultant was part of the Republic of South Sudan 🇸🇸 Delegation represented by the Ministry of Culture, Museums and National Heritage under the esteemed leadership of Hon. Nadia Arop Dudi Mayom while Maxxit International was represented by our executive chairman Monica Maker Majok.
MONDIACULT 2022, the largest world conference devoted to culture in the last 40 years, brought together nearly 2,600 participants over three days in Mexico City. We saw over 135 Ministers as part of the delegations representing their States at the highest honour.
Her Excellency Hon. Nadia, presented on key areas such policies and frameworks, heritage and development of cultural sites, international partnerships to establish a system of governance for a viable culture sector and creative/innovation measures to build sustainable infrastructure. The Minister called upon her fellow colleagues for support and unity towards the developing nations who need the international support as the above points are crucial areas of focus for the development of vulnerable countries such as The Republic of South Sudan.
A key take away was ‘Culture as a driver of development’. An extract from UNESCO states, “According to UNESCO data, the cultural and creative sector is one of the most powerful engines of development worldwide. It accounts for more than 48 million jobs globally –almost half of which are held by women – representing 6.2% of all existing employment and 3.1% of global GDP. It is also the sector that employs and provides opportunities for the largest number of young people under the age of 30”.

We look forward to continuing key conversations held with State Ministers and delivering services needed to successful support the mission of developing the cultural sectors.
