Two weeks ago I was named a finalist in the 2026 Australian Style Institute Awards in two categories: PERSONAL STYLING EXCELLENCE & BUSINESS EXCELLENCE.
Huge congratulations to all nominees and finalists
I'm so thrilled to be in the running for these awards. Of course it'd be super cool to win an award, but the why for me runs really deep.
It's wild to be recognised alongside such accomplished talent in the Australian styling industry, particularly in my first year of running SVED.
My approach to personal styling is pretty unconventional, to the point where I sometimes wonder if I should even call myself a stylist. I oscillate wildly between rejecting so much of the fashion industry and being completely drawn to it.
Over the past 18 months I've been living and breathing clothes and building SVED, around so many different, sometimes seemingly disparate, aspects of fashion, culture, identity, meaning and belonging.
When I chose to study personal styling at the Australian Style Institute, I wanted to learn the technical styling "rules" so I could answer specific questions, with every intention of breaking those rules and encouraging clients to do the same.
I got so much more than rules. I learnt a way of guiding clients through styling that has become the backbone of my work.
There are so many stereotypes about what a personal stylist is and does, and the Australian Style Institute turns so much of that on its head. With serious kindness and expertise.
The COOLEST thing about the Personal Styling Excellence Award is that it isn't just about technical styling. It recognises client-centred practice and genuinely transformational client outcomes.
My win is getting texts from clients telling me they're loving themselves fully sick after we work together. Or that they've been trying something new. Listening to the little voice inside their head again.
The winners will be announced next Thursday night.
