The policy conditions are set. The AU-EU Trade Trilogy opens unprecedented pathways for Australian companies to expand into Europe.

For boards and executive teams in innovation-led sectors, the focus must shift from market access to market readiness. The trilogy provides a clear structure for sustainable cross-border growth, specifically across clean energy, critical minerals, and life sciences.

The commercial opportunities are substantial:

🟨 Tariff removals on 98 percent of major exports

🟨 Direct access to $845 billion in annual EU government procurement

🟨 Integration into a $155 billion European innovation funding program

🟨 Many leaders feel they need deep technical expertise before they can implement AI systems or make AI-informed decisions.

That pressure creates hesitation, and that hesitation is already slowing some organisations down.

➡️ But the fear isn’t really about AI itself.
➡️ It’s about not feeling confident that they know “enough” to lead its implementation well.

🟨 We’ve seen this before. When social media first entered the business world over a decade ago, organisations reacted in a very similar way: uncertainty, hesitation, and a belief that only technical experts could move forward.

Having supported organisations through multiple waves of digital transformation, we know this pattern well. The learning curve feels big at the start, but capability grows quickly when leaders have the right guidance.

Our role today is to help leaders shift from fear to capability, and to adopting the mindset shift that you don’t need full technical mastery to lead AI adoption or a new wave of digital transformation. Even the teams using these tools every day don’t know everything.

➡️ Full AI literacy isn’t the expectation
➡️ Start by being informed and strategic.

If you’d like to develop the skills to make decisions even when the picture isn’t complete, you can learn more about our leadership services here: https://smallmightygroup.squarespace.com/

What happens when you take a proactive and systemised approach instead of leaving people and the company's growth up to luck?

🟨 Specsavers and Louis Nielsen are a clear example of intentional capability-building. It’s no surprise they continue earning top placements in the Great Place To Work nominations.

🟨 One of the initiatives driving this success is the Train-the-Trainer Mentor Program, a year-long development journey for mentors in both stores and country offices who support graduates, newly qualified staff, and new joiners.

🟨 We’ve had the privilege of creating and running this program for several years now, and its impact is unmistakable.

Here’s what a program like this unlocks:
âž• Higher attraction and retention of new staff
âž• Faster onboarding and stronger performance from new team members
âž• Cross-learning between generations of staff
âž• Personal growth and increased job satisfaction for mentors
âž• Knowledge sharing across stores, strengthening the whole organisation
âž• A deeper sense of belonging, company pride, engagement, and living the organisation's values

🟨 When organisations build capability intentionally, they create momentum that touches every part of the business.

We love this work, supporting the growth and development of people and organisations.

If you would like us to create personalised training tailored to your organisation and achieve results like these, reach out to Tara or Torben.

That was my answer when I got this question earlier this month, during the 3-day STOP Domestic Violence Conference, during a walk-and-talk I was facilitating.

Thanks to the Australian and New Zealand Mental Health Association Inc. and Lilian Pabis for inviting me and for letting me serve as an ambassador for this and other great conferences that truly make a difference.

I look forward to sharing my learnings and making a further difference in leadership development.
