I’ve seen a lot in my 35yrs as a retailer

The first decade in the Cosmetic & Fragrance industry

The industry was a machine there was so much to learn

I changed categories to luxury leather goods

Ironically I was exposed to a lot of what not to do

Which is where I learned the most

It was the first time I was exposed to a brand not getting its heritage

Not leveraging its 3 generations of loyal customers

With a close eye on a competitor

That wasn't our competitor at all

It was an apples and banana comparison

Both are yummy but very different

Meanwhile not being focused on our real competition A serious leather goods brand was acquired by a National player

And the game changed now we had real competition

Over the next 2yrs, the brand was massively impacted by the competitor

It impacted sales, profit, staff turnover, productivity, and the brand itself

The brand was officially lost

If only I knew then what I know now

BUT

This was the first time I started to get what I now call

Over the years,

I’ve worked with many top brands to fix poor performance.

One of my first projects was with a well-known Australian brand that was really struggling.

When I started, I quickly realised my initial approach wouldn’t work in the long run.

It would just lead to the same issues coming back.

We couldn’t afford the time and sales losses that came with this cycle.

The problems were deep and across all divisions, with an added cultural disconnect.

We weren’t designing for our end-use customers, and our brand lacked clarity.

Our in-store experience didn’t match what our ideal customer wanted, and we had no solid strategy to fix things.

Fast forward 20 years, and many retail owners still face the same challenges today:
