We are looking for a compassionate, talented, dedicated Museum Manager to take full ownership of operations.

This is not your everyday management role - in fact, there isn’t an ‘office’ to be seen here at MoPA! Instead, this is a diverse and hands-on role, perfect for someone who loves being up and about all day, and hates the thought of being stuck behind a desk. This role is primarily about engaging with our amazing visitor community all day long, and proudly maintaining every aspect of the venue, the amazing team, and the daily operations.

At MoPA, we believe that creativity and play can paint a brighter future. Every member of our small team works tirelessly to ensure that families can create and play together in a Museum that is perfectly safe, perfectly clean, extremely well run, and tonnes of fun - all day, every day. As the senior-most employee at MoPA Geelong, you will take full accountability for this, and will rally the team around you to help maintain truly exceptional standards.

The Museum Manager is ‘the face of this organisation’; the person who will turn the lights on each morning, manage almost every single guest arrival and departure, answer every phone call and return every message, run a handful of dance parties and craft lessons for the kids, and then clean up at the end of each day after everyone else is done playing - it’s a big, full, busy, but awesomely rewarding gig. In addition to running the operation each day, you’ll then recruit, roster and manage our team of casual super stars (hands down the most amazing people you’ll ever meet) to help out when things get busy, and finally, you’ll be on the pursuit for opportunities to innovate and make operational improvements in everything we do.

Qualities we’re looking for:

You’re charismatic, genuinely kind, and just… really nice to be around! You’re the type to open doors for strangers, say “hi” to people passing in the street - and everyone tells you that you’ve got a rare knack for being everyone’s best friend within 2-minutes of meeting them.

Your work is more than just a job. You’ve never watched a clock in your life because you’re passionate about your work and your career, and you’re busy making your mark on the world. You’re the type to run a mile from anything easy, because you’re happiest when you’re busy and challenged.

You’re a festidious “clean machine”. You never sit down because there’s always something to do. You’ve got boundless energy and will happly clock up 15,000 steps a day on your Garmin - from one end of the Museum to the other, all day long, you’ll wipe, tidy, freshen up, re-stock, re-full, and CLEAN the venue to a sparkle.

Responsibilities include:

Maintaining the reputation we have worked so hard to achieve, in visitor experience - defined by “cleanliness, quality visitor engagements, and (most importantly) a deep compassion and empathy for families!”

Ensuring all Casual Team Members are fulfilled, focused and performing to the highest possible standard

Maintaining technical based exhibits (you needn’t be an IT guru, but you are a fast learner of new tech)

Sales and delivery of our party program, including tours, bookings, hospitality and running amazing parties!

Other duties will include hiring, rosters and payroll, accounting, cost management, ordering of supplies and services to keep the museum and all exhibits functioning to the highest standard, performance management of cleaners and all other suppliers, reporting, over-and-above cleaning, etc
