Notepad++, a widely used text editor in IT and dev toolkits, confirmed its update mechanism was hijacked due to a hosting provider compromise; allowing attackers to redirect update traffic to malicious servers for months in 2025.

This wasn’t a bug in the app itself, but a supply chain attack targeting the update infrastructure. A timely reminder that even trusted tools can be leveraged as attack vectors.

If you're thinking about turning on Microsoft Copilot, you need to check your file permissions first.

Copilot is powerful because it reads your company data in OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams to give you answers. That is also the risk. If a user can open a file, Copilot can read it.

This becomes a problem if your permissions are disorganized. You might have an old payroll spreadsheet that was shared with ""Everyone"" years ago. You forgot it exists, but Copilot will find it instantly.

If an employee asks Copilot "How much do people get paid?", and that file is accessible, the AI will show them the data.

Before you turn it on, look at your files:

• Ensure HR and Finance folders are restricted to the right people.
• Remove old files with ""Company-wide"" sharing links.
• Use Microsoft's ""Sensitivity Labels"" (like Confidential) so Copilot knows what it can and cannot touch.
