Crazy that fire got cranking on a cool damp day - goes to show how DRY the conditions are 🤯

Multi agency callout to assist Rathdowney Fire & Rescue (aka Red Trucks!) with an out of control grassfire at P***n Creek pushing uphill in the wind.

Our crew of 4 worked on extinguishing edges of the burn from the black and ensuring no fire was active, particularly smouldering logs. These can take a lot of time and water to deal with!

Crews on scene were urban and rural units from Rathdowney Rural Fire Brigade and Fire and Rescue , Kooralbyn red trucks, Woodhill Rural Fire Brigade , Birnam Rural Fire Brigade as well as Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS)

Our crew turned out fast for the drive to Rathdowney/P***n Creek - thanks to Clinton Freeman , Trent, Brad Grant and Nick for being ready and available to assist! 💫🔥

Last Sunday (Mother's Day 💖) saw dedicated volunteers swing into training mode ... Boonah Airfield was humming with Air Base Operator training taking place right here on our doorstep. ✈️🚒

Across Brigades in the Boonah Group, we now have 9 qualified Air Base Operators, which means that when fire activity ramps up, we can quickly stand up the airbase, refill water bombers, and get them back in the sky doing what they do best.

Keeping water bombers flying takes a fair bit of know-how, teamwork, and people willing to spend their weekend learning the fiddly bits. A huge effort from everyone involved, and a big step forward for local capability.

Tremendously fortunate to have an airfield right here in Boonah!

Training night last Wednesday 🔥💦 welcoming new recruits and ticking off mandatory skills and paperwork! Even for old hands refreshing basic skills is useful and keeps knowledge fresh.

It's getting drier and later this week will see temperatures in single digits overnight ❄️ risky fire conditions so be very careful on farm. Give us a call if you want to discuss fire hazard reduction in the Allandale area!

You hope you won't need it but being prepared is crucial 💯 Great turnout for First Aid training on Sunday. 11 members of our brigade were available to go through their paces. Well done! Attending to people in real need can be very challenging so training with colleagues in a fun and supportive way makes learning so much easier ✅ thanks to the trainers who volunteered to conduct the course - very much appreciated! It happens fast ... a small stack burn can go from 'all good' to 🤯 pretty quickly!!!
This one yesterday at Washpool saw crews from Kalbar Rural Fire Brigade Ripley Valley Rural Fire Brigade Roadvale Rural Fire Brigade and Warrill View crews in attendance. Local landholders also pitched in - huge thank you!

Work days are tricky to crew so top effort from everyone and from our brigade with Clinton Freeman and Nick in the 51 and Brad Grant Trent in the SER45 ute.
It's heavy and exhausting work managing hoses in the heat and it's easy to get overheated. Keep hydrated, call for a break and look out for one another!

💦🔥 as the country dries ... please take care out there. Remember to chat to your local Fire Warden for a Permit and/or if you need some advice on hazard reduction burns.

Meanwhile ... it's getting dry around the ridges ... preparedness is key! 🌾🌾🌾🌾🌞

Training night last week 👨🏻‍🚒 with hoses everywhere, plenty of teamwork, a few decent problem-solving moments 🤔 and solid content from the new induction program mixed in to keep us on track amidst the fun!

G'day to our community 😃 It’s early days, but it’s exciting to see progress in the dirt on our facilities expansion. 🚜 Upgrading our site with a new shed will give the brigade more room to train, better support for day-to-day operations, and help set us up to serve the Boonah region well into the future. As much as we love our trucks a 'clean room' for meetings and workshops will be very welcome!
