Rain Harvesting Presents
Jungle Farm: Living with the Land in the Cook Islands

Tama and Esther are used to making a journey for water. Down the mountain, fill the containers, back up again. Water for their animals. Water for survival. Living at Jungle Farm, thirty metres above sea level in the Cook Islands, meant living beyond the reach of the public water network. Rainwater wasn't a choice. It was the only option.

On customary land passed down through generations, where Tama's great-grandfather once farmed and his father carved roads from jungle, they're now building something of their own. A 12,000-litre rainwater system. A home for their boys. A small apiary business. A life shaped by what falls from the sky.

This is the first story in Rain Harvesting Stories, celebrating the connection between people, place and water.

📲 Monitor Your Entire Rainwater System From One App

From a single tank in the garden to multiple properties with complex set-ups, water management shouldn't be a guessing game. You deserve a system that gives you clarity, not confusion.

Manual checks. Unclear levels. Missed rainfall. Without live visibility into your rain harvesting system, you're left in the dark. This increases the risk of overflows, underuse, or worse, running dry when you need it most.

Our Rain Harvesting Connect App gives you full visibility and control in the palm of your hand:
✔️ Track live tank levels in litres or %
✔️ See usage and collection history by day, week, month or year
✔️ Set alerts for low levels, rainfall, or unusual usage
✔️ Add devices, view notifications, and share access with your family or property manager

Whether you’re managing a backyard tank or a full rural system, our app gives you the insight to make smarter and faster decisions wherever you are.

Experience the difference of digital water tracking and let our experts help you develop the best system for your property.

Take control anytime, anywhere.

In the demanding landscape of rural Queensland, efficient water management is crucial for livestock health and property sustainability.

The Brook, a sprawling 50,000-acre cattle station, relies heavily on a decentralised water system of tanks and troughs to provide water across the property.

With such a vast area to monitor, traditional weekly manual inspections proved inefficient and risked missing critical water losses between checks.

Read the full article here:

Discover how The Brook improved livestock care and saved millions of litres with smarter water monitoring across 50,000 acres in Queensland.

Nestled in the rural landscape just outside Beaudesert, Nindooinbah is a premier Brangus bull breeding enterprise managing high-value livestock across an expansive 5,000-acre property.

With animal health and operational efficiency as top priorities, the farm required a reliable and intelligent water management system to ensure uninterrupted water supply to its stock.

How can the right filtration setup save you hundreds whilst delivering perfect water quality for every use?

You've successfully collected quality rainwater, and now it's time to match your final filtration perfectly to each application. Smart filtration isn't about maximum treatment for everything; it's about optimising for purpose, which saves money, reduces maintenance, and ensures each use gets exactly the quality needed.

Tailoring filtration to purpose creates an efficient, cost-effective system. Garden irrigation thrives with a simple 100-micron sediment filter that protects your pumps and sprinklers whilst maintaining good flow rates, typically needing replacement just once yearly.

For household appliances, dual-stage filtration works brilliantly: a 20-micron sediment filter partnered with carbon filtration keeps washing machines and toilets running smoothly whilst preventing any colour or odour issues. This teamwork approach means each filter shares the load, lasting longer and performing better. The beauty is in the progression: each level builds on the last, creating exactly the quality you need without waste.

How can just 100 millimetres and two minutes monthly keep your rainwater fresh and crystal clear for years?

With your collection and storage systems optimised, a few simple management techniques will maintain the quality of the water you've already harvested. The beauty of these methods is their simplicity: the 100-millimetre rule and periodic drainage take just minutes to implement but deliver years of fresh, clean water.

Two strategic practices keep your water at its best. First, position your tank outlet 100 millimetres above the bottom to create a protective buffer zone. This clever spacing means sediment stays settled whilst you draw crystal-clear water from above. Add a calmed inlet that gently redirects incoming water horizontally, preserving the peaceful sediment layer below.

For wet systems, installing drainage valves at the lowest points lets you refresh the pipework fortnightly to monthly, keeping water moving and oxygenated. This simple routine prevents any organic matter from fermenting and maintains pristine water quality. Complete the protection by adding solar shields or tank covers to block sunlight. Without light, your water stays clear and algae-free naturally.
