Astron Corporation Limited (ASX:ATR) is pleased to announce that it has executed an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Yarriambiack Shire Council (YSC). The MOU provides for Astron and YSC to work cooperatively and collaboratively to maximise mutually beneficial community and economic outcomes from the development and operation of the Donald project.

The Minerals Council of Australia's (MCA) new publication "Mineral Sands: From ancient oceans to modern technology" highlights the opportunity to supply growing markets with high grade mineral sand resources. The potential for this emerging industry within Victoria is significant with many flow on opportunities for industries, businesses and communities alike.

Astron's wholly owned subsidiary Donald Mineral Sands (DMS) project is located in the Wimmera region of Victoria within the Murray Basin and holds world class Mineral Sands deposits. These deposits can produced titanium, zircon and rare earths commodities and with a growing global demand, Victoria and Australia are poised to capitalise on the supply of these minerals and associated value-add industries.

Whilst conventional demand globally for mineral sands products in the development of paint, steel and ceramics industries continues to evolve, the growing demand for Mineral Sands final product application in new technologies such as renewable energy, medical equipment, robotics and electric vehicles is evident. Identifying and meeting the needs of these emerging and important new technology supply chains is an opportunity to be proud of.

The Astron / DMS team has been collaborating with the Minerals Council of Australia over several years, promoting the potential mining industry opportunities within Victoria. The DMS project in North Western Victoria was one of these projects promoted in Canberra over recent weeks where critical mineral supply and value add opportunities for the State of Victoria were discussed.

Political acknowledgement is a key milestone in achieving high level recognition of potential projects like DMS in Victoria. Victoria holds the future of long-term mineral sands commodities for generations based on the known explored resources to date.

Identifying, developing and designing large mining projects takes considerable time and effort behind the scenes to ensure all approvals, conditions and methods of separation are low impact and of a high standard. These efforts are often overlooked and it is greatly appreciated to see the DMS team efforts clearly recognised at a political level by Dr Anne Webster MP.

The DMS project anticipates 150 FTE employees per stage with stage 2 closely following stage 1 development. Full time contractors and indirect services in local communities are not included in the potential staffing numbers and therefore the benefits of such a project undoubtedly stimulates many industries, businesses and communities at a regional level.

Astron Limited/DMS was pleased to meet with Anne Webster MP and her team in Canberra recently where key opportunities for our region were discussed, including opportunities for co-existence with agriculture, agriculture diversification, renewable energy systems and regional employment.

Astron acknowledge the need for developing and upskilling regional populations in related attributes to complement its future mining operations work force.

A busy day in Canberra today. It was exciting to hear about the prospects for jobs and industry growth in the Southern region of Mallee from Tim Chase of Astron Limited. It’s great to see locals leading industry to develop new ways to engage community and train a future workforce, to ensure as many future employees come from Mallee as possible
