"What tonnage do I need?"

It's the first question almost every buyer asks, and the honest answer is that it depends on four things: material type, thickness, bend length and tooling. Thicker material needs more tonnage. Longer bends need more bed. Stainless takes more than mild steel for the same job; aluminium takes less but marks more easily if it's handled carelessly. Getting the calculation right isn't just about accuracy, it's a safety issue.

That's why our range spans 40 to 400+ tonne rather than pushing everyone toward the same machine:

🔹 Microbend (40–125T, 1250–3200mm bed) - the entry point for small fabrication workshops handling light gauge steel. Compact, high precision, cost-effective.

🔹 Powerbend Pro (80–400+T, 2500–6000mm bed) - for medium-to-heavy plate and varied job requirements. Multi-axis backgauges, CNC crowning and automation options give you room to move as the work changes.

🔹 Speedbend Pro (100–320T, 2500–4000mm bed) - built for high-volume environments where cycle time drives everything. Optimised ram speeds and advanced CNC control to maximise throughput.

All three are Ermaksan, built on high-strength monoblock steel frames, with Delem or Cybelec controls, servo hydraulic systems and repeatability to ±0.01mm. Properly maintained, machines at this grade run 15 to 25 years or more.

And every one arrives with installation, commissioning and operator training included, then stays supported by our in-house service department. Genuine parts, trained techs, right here in Australia. Finance options available.

"If it doesn't work out, I'll just upgrade later."

It's the reasoning that turns a saving into a double purchase. Replacing an underperforming machine isn't free; there's the sunk cost of the original, the disruption of removing and reinstalling equipment, retraining staff, and the lost production through the changeover. Buying the right machine once is almost always cheaper than buying twice.

The other two myths worth testing before you sign anything: that a similar spec sheet means a similar machine (it often means different steel, different castings, different componentry), and that parts are easy enough to get (many budget machines are sold here with no dedicated local distributor or parts inventory at all).

Our new article works through why European and North American machinery outperforms budget imports over a working life and finishes with a practical checklist for any supplier: where is it built and for how long, is there Australian parts stock, who actually carries out the warranty, and can they put you in touch with local customers running the same machine?

Stripped the teeth off a nearly new blade? The pitch was almost certainly wrong.

It's the mistake that kills more bandsaw blades than anything else.

Too coarse a pitch on thin-walled tube and fewer than three teeth are engaged at once, individual teeth hook into the material, snag and tear off.

Too fine a pitch on solid bar and the gullets can't clear the swarf, so the blade packs up, stops cutting and starts steering off line.

The rule is simple: minimum three teeth in the cut at all times, ideally no more than about twenty-four. If you're cutting everything from solid billet to thin tube on one saw, keep two blades on hand in different pitches. Five minutes to swap a blade beats replacing one with the teeth torn off.

Our new guide works through the most common bandsaw faults in diagnostic order; tension and tracking, guide wear, feed rate and blade speed, pitch selection, coolant, and a service schedule that keeps the machine sound underneath it all.

Thinking about your next bandsaw, press brake or guillotine? The cheapest quote on the table isn't always the cheapest machine to own.

Budget imports can look like a great deal upfront, but the real cost shows up later: parts stuck in customs for weeks, accuracy that drifts over time, and a machine that's worth next to nothing when you go to trade it in.

We put together a guide on why European and North American manufacturers (MEP, Ermaksan, Swebend, Cidan, Strands, Hidrogarne, Arostop, Hydmech and Vicon) continue to outperform budget machinery over its working life, plus a practical checklist for evaluating any brand before you buy.

Last week at AMW2026 in Brisbane, the Power Machinery team had the opportunity to connect with so many valued customers and meet a huge range of business owners from across Australia — many who had travelled interstate to see the latest innovations and technology all in one place.

From metal bandsaws and cold saws through to automatic and manual length measuring systems, it was great to showcase some of the machinery helping Australian manufacturers improve productivity, precision and efficiency every day.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand, had a chat with the team, and took the time to see the machines in action.

For those currently awaiting quotes or further information, we are working through all enquiries over the next week or so and will be in touch shortly.

We appreciate the support and look forward to helping more Australian businesses find the right machinery solutions for their workshop.
