Irene Harrington OAM I am an experienced professional Civil Celebrant specialising in significant life events. A day for reflection with happiness and joy.

As an Authorised Marriage Celebrant since 2008, it is my privilege to have been involved in a variety of significant life events such as weddings, renewal of vows, commitment ceremonies and baby namings and funerals. I enjoy and cherish the time I spend with couples to ensure that they are justly proud of their unique and personal wedding ceremony. Having been happily married for 45 years I understand how important a wedding day is. Similarly, I find it comforting to talk with families as they reflect on the life and achievements of their loved one, to ensure that their farewell is suitable and distinctive. I was so privileged to recently conducted a funeral for a lovely man whose family a loved him so dearly. He was a one-eyed Collingwood supporter so I wore my black and white jacket for him. Such a special family. As he was lowered into his burial site, a magpie swooped down and rested in a nearby tree and watched the rest of the service. Sometimes these amazing things happen.

So honoured to be asked to present a commemoration for an amazing lady in her 100th year. She lived life to the full and was involved in many, many activities, as well as supporting so many organisations. She truly lived life well and kept active until very late in her life . What a gem! Thank you lovely lady for all you did for Australia.

Just over 12 months ago I did a funeral for the first friend I ever made after coming to Australia from Scotland. We went through schools, marriages and then drifted apart. After 40 years we found each other again and the friendship continued from where it left off. I do miss our chats.
