The South Australian State Budget 226-2027 was handed down on Thursday 4 June 2026.

After three days in Queenstown at the IPA Tax Retreat, today marked the conclusion of an exceptionally rigorous program. The sessions covered complex and emerging issues arising from the 2026 Federal Budget, along with deep technical discussions across CGT, employment taxes, Division 296, FBT, cross‑border tax considerations, and post‑Budget structuring.

The retreat brought together leading practitioners including Andrew Henshaw, Peter Adams, Judy White, Tony Greco, Daniel Gibbons and Letty Chen, each providing practical insights, policy interpretation and real‑world guidance on the issues advisers will be navigating over the year ahead.

The depth of analysis, the focus on technical accuracy, and the open discussion of pressure points have been invaluable. I am returning with strengthened insight, clearer strategic frameworks, and a renewed focus on supporting clients through a rapidly evolving tax landscape.

A sincere thank you to the IPA Group for curating a program that balanced technical depth with practical application, and for facilitating an environment where advisers could openly share challenges and perspectives.

In my career as a tax consultant, I have come across this a few times, leading to uncomfortable situations where one has to disengage a client to uphold integrity.
Slippery Slope - a "no tax" mindset. An intense desire to minimize or eliminate tax liability can indeed create a slippery slope, blurring the lines between legitimate tax planning, aggressive tax avoidance, and illegal tax evasion.

Do you know exactly what it takes just to keep the doors open and the lights on?
Most of us keep a close eye on sales and profit. But there is one crucial number that quietly runs the show behind the scenes: your breakeven point.

It’s the amount you need to make just to cover the essentials for wages, rent, suppliers, insurance, and the sneaky little expenses that pop up. (And let's be honest, that number is almost always higher than we think!)

Here is why finding that number is a gamechanger for your business:
🔹 Smarter Pricing: Stop guessing. Know exactly if your prices are covering costs and creating a real margin.
🔹 Clearer Targets: Know exactly what you need to sell every single week to stay in the green.
🔹 Safer Decisions: Want to hire someone new or upgrade your equipment? You can test the financial impact before making a commitment.
🔹 Better Cash Flow: Don't get caught looking profitable on paper but having no money in the bank.

When you know your breakeven, you make decisions with confidence, not hope.
Need help figuring yours out? We're here for you. Reach out to the team at Adapt Accounting Services today! 💬👇

Yesterday started with an exceptional sense of purpose at the Highett Hub. With 35 professionals in attendance for the Fresh Networking session, the room was filled with the collective energy that drives meaningful business growth.

A highlight of the morning was a presentation by Harry Mirikis. His heartfelt insights into his role as a buyer’s agent served as a poignant reminder that professional work is most impactful when rooted in genuine service to others.

Following the presentation, we dived into vital discussions regarding EOFY strategies. As we approach June 30, it is essential for business owners to move beyond simple compliance and adopt a proactive approach to ensure their financial position is optimised for the year ahead.

It is always a privilege to collaborate with motivated local leaders and share insights that strengthen our business community.

If you are beginning to prepare for the end of the financial year and would like to discuss how to strategically align your business for a successful transition, I am here to assist.
