Katherine Barr Photography

Katherine Barr Photography Photography for live bands, music albums, newborns, babies and children's portraits and dance. My photographic styles encompass candid and black & white.

My first profession is as a vocalist/entertainer for the last 20 years working both in Australia and overseas. My photography is self taught and has always been a serious hobby until now! Having grown up with a father who was also a professional photographer, in my younger years we had a dark-room in every house we lived in and a series of serious SLR camera's including Hasselblad, Mamiya, Bronic

a and Yashica. It was no wonder that I have always had a passion and interest for photography! Having a long career on stage in music and having a solid background in performing arts from a young age through to my teens, I feel very capable and competent to capture the right moments for live performances as I have more than an 'understanding' of these arts. I can feel and see when a performer is working their magic. I also LOVE working with babies and children as being a mother myself I understand how beautiful and precious our children are to us and how important it is to capture their essence and character. I feel that they make the best subjects as they are captivating little people. Sweet, shy, cheeky, inquisitive - they are all different and fun to work with.

Leaving in June, Lieutenant Chad Mapp has spent 4 months at sea being confined onboard the HMAS Hobart due to Covid-19. That's an extraordinary feat for all the 230 RAN service personnel on HMAS Hobart. A very challenging deployment but heralded as a huge success as they took part in the world's largest maritime exercise, partnering with '11 nations across Southeast Asia, enhancing Australia’s ability to operate with partner nations during security challenges and times of humanitarian crisis.' Thank you to all for your service to our country.

Enjoy you special family time together Mapp family and thank you once again for inviting me to capture your joyous reunion through photography.

It was a fantastic and well deserved celebration for Nelly Jacono at the Inner West Institute of Music half-year concert on Sunday.

Nelly was celebrating 50 years of teaching the piano and the first two concerts of the day were dedicated to her with the majority of her students performing.

Nadia Koudasheva (a former student of Nelly's) came back to perform a piece especially for the occasion which was flawless and quite amazing.

Congratulations Nelly Jacono. You are one amazing and sassy lady with a heart of gold and great humour to match. Your family, friends and students are very appreciative of your hard work and dedication spanning 50 years and I was honoured to be able to be a part of your celebration and capture these moments for you to remember always. The Inner West Institute of Music had their annual half-yearly concert with a special celebration for Nelly Jacono who was celebrating 50 years of teaching piano and music.
I had the privilege of photographing this very special concert which was filled with amazing talented children, older students and some parents who have joined lessons themselves to learn something new and accompany their own children learning at IWIM.
Congratulations to IWIM founder Victoria Jacono-Gilmovich, her husband John Gilmovich and all teachers for another wonderful concert at the Canada Bay Club in Five Dock.
