This residence was replacing an existing cottage purchased by the family that needed more space grow into. The location of the block with the rural outlook met their needs but the original cottage did not. By starting with a clean slate, a design was able to be developed that benefited from great northerly aspect and opened up to the rural views surrounding this residence that is so close to the township of Moruya.

The design relates back to the historic rural cottages that still exist in the area with roof pitch; ceiling heights and roof design ensuring this new dwelling sits well within the country location.

This home was requiring a major upgrade and needed to better respect the site where amazing water views were available; as well as a northerly aspect. The location of the original dwelling was closer to the cliff face than now permissible so maintaining the original footprint was imperative to ensure the close link to the water was maintained. Retaining ground floor structure required compromising with layouts below but the upper floor was completely reconfigured with the result now on show. The main living areas and master bedroom suite overlook the water views wrapping around this renovated dwelling. Raised ceilings and extensive glass ensure light floods into all the rooms and modern detailing and fixtures transform this existing dwelling.

This project created a permanent home for a couple relocating to the coast. It was originally a typical coastal cottage with the ability to access water views with improved orientation. Therefore the addition created did not follow the line of the original dwelling and in doing that created visual interest and further articulation for the street façade. Another critical brief requirement was that entry to the dwelling was defined and became a feature projecting forward of the main building lines. Window articulation along with colour and material selection further identified the entry statement.

Internal spaces were opened up and flooded with light by increasing external glazing and drawing in light through the roof. Well designed and efficient use of spaces created a small but comfortable permanent residence.

This signature residence was one of the first to be built in the new subdivision on the edge of a well established suburb. The block was steep from front to back and that provided an opportunity to develop a floorplan that stepped up, with various levels, to relate to that natural ground profile. The clients were seeking to create a dwelling that was unique in presentation and style, highlighted by detailing that created elevated ceilings and seamless flowing living spaces that transition into well appointed outdoor rooms.

The Moruya Golf Club had little relation to the golf course below. The proposed deck with sail cover accessed directly off the main conference/auditorium opens out to allow internal spaces to be used in conjunction with external spaces. The sail cover created great visual interest to the elevation; as did the deck, while also providing protection from the sun to enable the space to be enjoyed all year round.

Aesthetically the deck needed to draw from the existing features of the Golf Club building and the sail covers required extensive additional engineering back into the existing roofline and wall where fixings points were applied. The result is an elegant addition that improves the amenity of all users whether members of visitors.

Our development here needed to not only enhance exposure to the natural water views from the maximum number of spaces within the dwelling; but also needed to provide extensive vehicular storage space that did not dominate the streetscape nor detract from the functionality of the residence.

Also required for this project was a need for strong separation between guest accommodation and the main living spaces for the owners, with an emphasis in bringing the outside into the internal spaces of the dwelling.

A strong Balinese feel and extensive use of timber ensured this dwelling sat well within the site with a high degree of privacy for all external spaces maintained.

The site of this project was highly constrained due to the narrow width of the lot and the existing adjacent residents in what is to become a commercial precinct. The owners of the property needed to relocate their existing established business and successful development of this lot enabled them to owner-occupy, with that business ensuring the long term viability of the family operated business.

This stunning site was proposed to accommodate a dual occupancy that would require cost effective solutions, allowing the owners to think and dream bigger, building two 3 bedroom dwellings. One they would keep for private use and the other they would sell. This type of project is not unusual in locations like this and with careful planning we were able to allow both dwellings to have a northerly aspect and private open spaces.

Such an ideal location in close proximity to the beach, makes this an attractive site for holiday home investment opportunities, while being mindful of property maintenance via site layout we were able to enhance the appeal of the project for holiday letting.

Traditional all the way. This site fell away sharply from the street so our design needed to work around constraints regarding safe entry and exit for vehicles and access to the dwelling. View opportunities from the home were many, but in order to respect the privacy of neighbouring properties, our design focused on and featured only the most uninterrupted views.

An impressive expressed steel structure and extensive glazed external walls are features of this modern industrial beauty. The site here had extensive fall down from the street with dramatic views to the west. Our design maintained privacy from the street by retaining the existing large Norfolk Pines. The rear of the home is completely glazed with all the street structure expressed from footings to roof. All selected windows comply with stringent bushfire and energy efficiency ratings whilst still bringing the western views into the home.

A modern delight with an urban essence. This elegant home needed to be elevated for residents to enjoy wide views while still complying with NSW Department of Planning maximum height limits. The inclusion of a lift and external stair climber ensured all levels would be accessible with details for internal/external thresholds critical. All was applied to spaces that expressed areas within the open plan living areas via varying elevated ceiling levels.

I wish to extend my support to all those poor people in my community who have experienced loss due to the fires. I felt the anxiety experienced as the fires approached my neighbourhood and then the fear driving away from my home after deciding to evacuate feeling unable to defend my property if it was required. My most precious possessions were in my car, but I was so relieved to return to everything intact in Moruya Heads. For now the rain diminishes our fire risk and it’s work as usual so call my mobile anytime to discuss any matters concerning you if your home or property was damaged or lost; and I will try to take away some of the stress associated.

Council is keeping us in the industry up to date on specific special circumstances that will be applied to those impacted by bushfires. Take care and look to your community for support as we all recover from this awful start to 2020. If anyone wishes to donate to support the recovery go to the RFS website or WIRES or Red Cross.
