Nature's Superglue & Protection! 🌿🛠️

Did you know that Spinifex is one of the most useful plants in the bush?

While it’s famous for being a bit prickly during a hike, it's also incredibly resourceful. Traditional Owners have used the resin from the plant for generations to create strong tools and weapons.

Ecologically, it’s just as important, keeping the soil together and giving our native animals a place to call home. We love seeing this hardy plant across the sites we visit!

Late last year, our Heritage Team (Trace Archaeology) had the privilege of travelling to Gascoyne Junction to work alongside Yinggarda Cultural Consultants. 👣

The Gascoyne River is more than just a site for a new Water Corporation pipeline—it’s a living landscape shaped by generations of Yinggarda families, stories, and rainmaking rituals. By walking the Country together, we ensure that essential infrastructure like water security can be achieved while protecting the stories woven into the land.

A huge thank you to the senior Yinggarda knowledge holders for sharing their memories and guiding our work.

Think all Eucalypts look the same? Think again! 🤯 Body: Our Ecologist Anthony was recently in the field breaking down why identifying Eucalyptus species is basically a high-stakes game of "Spot the Difference." From bud shapes to bark texture, the devil is in the details!

🔥 Bird Spotlight: The Dashing Painted Finch! 🔥

Found mainly in Australia's arid and semi-arid regions, the Painted Finch is small but spectacular. Its scientific name is Emblema pictum, which truly suits its 'painted' look!

Fun Fact: These stunning birds are often found near spinifex grasses, where they love to forage for seeds. They are tough little travelers built for the harsh Outback environment.

Did you know? Western Australia is home to some of the most unique plant species on Earth! 🌍

We sent our Ecologist, Anthony, out to capture the magic, and he came back with a stunning video showing just how much plant diversity you can find in one small area. It’s a hidden world right in our backyard!

Grab a coffee, hit play, and prepare to be surprised by the incredible flora of the West. It’s fun, fast, and full of life!

Sunshine and Sites! ☀️

Meet our CEO, Joshua Davis! As both an Archaeologist and Anthropologist, his 'work trip' often looks like this: out in the incredible Northern Territory providing monitoring works for an exciting historical project.

Forget the suit and tie—this is the gear you need to protect history in the Australian sun! We're always thrilled to see our team enjoying the field and getting these projects done.

Give us a 👍 if you think this is the coolest job!

Digging Deep: Emily Finds the Detail

Behind every big discovery is a lot of small, careful work! 👋 Meet Emily, our fantastic Assistant Archaeologist, getting hands-on during a recent excavation.

This is the sieving process—where all the excavated soil is gently shaken through a mesh to reveal tiny artefacts, bones, or even charcoal fragments that tell the story of the site. It’s dirty work, but it’s where the real magic (and the smallest, most important finds) happens!

Emily’s dedication to this meticulous work is what makes a successful dig. If you love history, this is where you find it, inch by gritty inch!
