It is with sadness that we announce the closure of our Cellar Door as from 18 September 2022. With the sale of the vineyard in May 2021, it was a matter of how long we would continue with our Cellar Door.

Being based in Sydney, the travel and time involved became increasingly less productive. So with the sale of the property, the time has come to close our Cellar Door in Orange.

We will continue to supply wine requests from existing customers through our website, email or phone orders.

Thank you to all our Cellar Door visitors. It has been a pleasure serving you and thank you for your purchase of our wines.

Boree Lane Cellar Door will be closed this weekend (Saturday 2 July and Sunday 3 July) due to an out of town celebration that we will be attending.

We look forward to seeing you at the Cellar Door when we will be open on the weekend of 16 and 17 July.

Thanks,

Bob

NEWS RELEASE

It’s in the bottle and rearing to go!

After the fires of 2020 prevented our plans, we now have our 2021 CHEEKY Rose’. This is a worthy successor to the previous well loved Cabernet Rose’.

This time we have made it from our lovely fully organic Merlot grapes from our Orange vineyard.

It has a beautiful salmon pink colour and a satisfying and substantial palate that lends itself to Summer quaffing and accompanying a range of foods, especially barbeque fare.

This is not a pale, very dry Provencal style. It’s a gutsy Aussie style rose’!

2021 ‘CHEEKY’ ROSE
We were going to make a new “Cheeky” in 2020 as we had run out of our very popular 2014 Rosé. Unfortunately smoke from the bush fires put paid to that, so this harvest we hand-picked Merlot grapes for the new “Cheeky” and delivered them to Will Rikard-Bell at Chill Wine.

His company name has proved very apt as the new winery is perched on the upper slope of Mount Canobolas and catches the cold winds. However, the view is great.

We tasted the young wine and Will made some adjustments for the final product. It is shaping up as an exciting and worthy successor to the 2014!

It has been bottled and we are currently sorting out an issue with labeling. We hope to make it available soon on the online store, so keep a lookout.

SALE OF OUR FULLY ORGANIC BOREE LANE VINEYARD

With our vineyard audit in May, the vineyard is now fully certified organic! So, after three years in transition that is a big milestone.

However, as there were no family members who would join the business, I felt the time had come for a new owner to take the reins, with younger energy and plans so that they could make the many decisions needed to take the vineyard forward into a Climate Change future.

I was looking for a proven and well-established local producer who could take over the vineyard, so it would continue to contribute to the growing reputation of the Orange Region. To that end it has now been sold to Philip Shaw Wines with Philip Shaw providing the experience and Daniel Shaw taking over the running of the vineyard. He is very keen on the organic status and will build on this.

The vineyard is in good shape; a big thanks to Geoff Cook for doing such a great job looking after it for the last six years and particularly through a difficult 2020 into 2021. He will continue to help the new owners.

Boree Lane Wines Cellar Door will continue to operate (when COVID restrictions allow) and grapes for future wine will still be sourced from the vineyard.

2021 Harvest

2021 was certainly an improvement on 2020 thank goodness! However the yields were down with smaller bunches, as the vines were still recovering, but the flavours were well-developed. The grapes went mostly to a range of local and Central West producers from medium size to small operators, which was very satisfying.

Our vineyard manager, Geoff Cook, did a wonderful job organising the pickers, harvesters, transport, etc. as well as coping with a near disaster when a replacement harvester was required. It arrived on a trailer that was too narrow and it almost overbalanced while trying to coax it off. That made for a very long and stressful night’s harvest.
