Pig trapping can be dangerous especially when clearing traps. Single large boars have the space to gain momentum when trapped alone, using their large mass and speed to try to bust through traps. Copping a hit like this would certainly wreck your day.

Like any wild animal, feral pigs would rather run away when confronted, but when cornered in a trap they will attack.

What the camera didn’t show was this pig charging at me multiple times until a suitable shot could be taken.

Always approach the pig brig at a safe angle and use the star post as a barrier between you and the pig. Be patient, study the pigs movements, and always prioritise your safety. Never shoot through the net, wait for a good clear head shot, and always remember to slow down and not rush the shot.

I don’t really record trap walk ups and clearing but I’ll look into getting a gopro for future programs.

Monsters still exist taking 9 pigs today including 3 battle warn bruisers that would pretty easily weigh 90-100+kg.

1 old boar showing signs of deep tissue/muscle damage, scaring and recent puncture wounds from fighting just goes to show how sharp their tynes are and how tough and adaptable these animals are at beating infection and healing.

With the heavy rain on the way I set 3 traps for capture and removed 14 more pigs yesterday for another client before the area became inaccessible for the rest of the week.

Wild Dogs, Foxes and Feral Cats will investigate grain during free feeding. I was lucky enough to capture a wild dog squaring up to a large boar. A single dog is no match for a feral pig of this size and in the wild there is no hospital or medical treatment so due to the size of the pig it was not worth defending the grain or taking on the pig so the wild dog moved on and left the area.

Another trapping program successfully completed for a private land holder taking 18 feral pigs and 94% control of the known population at the time of trapping.

Working in the mountains is always a challenge especially when wet. However, the steep terrain is one of my favourite places to work and I love the challenge.

With 3 new trapping contracts underway I filled in a few nights this week doing some suppressed thermal ground shooting taking 30+ rabbits and a fox from a sporting horse stud and 5 deer 4 foxes and a pig on a maintenance run for a regular client.

On Friday I completed a large pig trapping program in south east NSW.
The program was very successful taking 104 feral pigs in 4 weeks.

I also submitted 36 blood samples taken from controlled adult feral pigs to assist in research along with teaching land holders tips and tricks in the pig trapping process to help them efficiently control feral pigs on their properties down the track.

Had a quick break from pig trapping last night doing some suppressed thermal shooting. The session went well taking 7 foxes and a feral cat.

If you seen this damage and guessed crows you are correct.

I have been trapping this property for the last 3 weeks and watched these patches get bigger and bigger due to hundreds of crows spending all day everyday pulling the top layer apart searching for grubs and worms just like the feral pigs.

The top soil on this part of the property is very light and powdery making it very easy to shift any grass around with ease. They are even leaving golf balls behind which they often confuse with eggs.

Apart from seeing this first hand and removing many pigs from this section there is no other pig sign in this damage or nearby dams/waterways such as foot prints, pig poo, rippings or images of them on camera.

Currently half way through a pig trapping program in the states south east.
The program has been very successful taking 78 feral pigs so far including this heavy old boar Ive called “The Grey Fox”.

So far he is the only pig to have damaged the Pig Brig by using kinetic force but considering his size of approx 100kg or more and being the only pig in the trap with a good run up I still managed to win the round.

The trap is now mended and ready for the next site👌🏻
