A good news story today from NSW SES about the what3words app being used to pinpoint where an accident had happened.

Having used the emergency plus app at accident scenes to pinpoint exactly where you are, especially in areas you are exploring and don't know, it is well worth downloading just in case you need to help a fellow rider or driver.

Have you got it on your phone?

As we head into the holiday break, we know many of you are egg-cited to hit the open road. However, increased traffic means we all need to be a little more vigilant to avoid a "scramble."

Let’s ensure everyone has an egg-ceptional long weekend and returns home safely. Enjoy the ride, stay sharp, and keep the shiny side up!

One of the topics the committee has been discussing recently is lane filtering. Below is an overview of when you can and when you cannot lane filter. The Qld legislation is linked at the end of the post to look further into the details.

In Queensland, motorcycle lane filtering is legal for open licence holders only, allowing riders to pass between stationary or slow-moving traffic (30 km/h or less) when safe.
It is illegal at all times for learners (REL) or provisional (P1/P2) licence holders.

Key Lane Filtering Rules (QLD)
* Licence Requirement: You must hold an open licence for the class of motorcycle being ridden.
* Speed Limit: Filtering must be done at 30 km/h or less.
* Edge Filtering: Only permitted if the road has a speed limit greater than 90km/h. If a variable speed limit sign is shows a lower speed, but the road is usually 90km/h or more, you can still edge filter when you and traffic are travelling at 30km/h or less.
* Traffic Condition: Traffic must be stationary or moving slowly in the same direction. To filter between lanes, traffic must be moving in the same direction of travel as you.
* Safety: It must be safe to do so. If it is not safe, it is illegal in all instances.

Where Filtering is Illegal
* School Zones: Prohibited during school zone hours.
* Kerb/Bike Lanes: Not permitted between a vehicle and the kerb, or inside a bicycle lane.
* Signage: Areas marked with a "no filtering" sign (a motorcycle between two cars with a diagonal line).
* Edge Filtering: This is not permitted in road work zones or in tunnels.

Penalties
Improper lane filtering can result in heavy penalties, including fines exceeding $500 and loss of 3 demerit points.

So what are your thoughts on the above rules? Good? Don’t like them? Need to be expanded? Sensible? Or do you need more information? Do you have questions? Is it confusing?
Let us know.

QMC are seeking clarity around turn lanes and the ability to pass between straight on and a turn lane to reach the front.
