We found the green sheep 🐑💚🥝🥒

Made entirely from rolled-up cucumber strips for the wool and a little kiwi for the head.

Did you know speech pathologists rate Where Is the Green Sheep? highly? It’s a wonderful book for teaching prepositions, with simple text and clear pictures showing sheep in different positions — up, down, near and far. The repetition and playful story make spatial words easier for children to understand and practise.

Have you ever thought ‘Is the sushi you order from the shops giving the amount of protein in tuna or the amount of avo they claim to give?’

This is what Dietitians can do.

In this video, we’re breaking delicious sushi down to weigh individual pieces. We do this regularly for clients for meal or product verification.

We also do meal audits in the childcare, disability, meals on wheels services, retirement villages and the aged care space.

In aged care, each year we conduct hundreds of MMQAs, and part of this is weighing the different components in meals and snacks to look at the different food groups, and whether there enough protein, calcium and other important nutrients.

Well… this one’s a bit of a plot twist. Garlic powder containing peanuts? 😳

A recent recall by Food Standards Australia New Zealand has highlighted just how unpredictable food allergens can be — because let’s be honest, garlic powder isn’t exactly where you’d expect to find peanuts. The good news? This hidden allergen was picked up and the product was recalled — exactly how the food safety system is meant to work.

And that’s the point… would you have checked the garlic powder before cooking?👀

Allergen risks don’t always come from obvious sources, which is why reading food labels every time is non-negotiable. It only takes one overlooked ingredient to create a serious situation for people with allergies.

Because when it comes to food safety in Aged Care & Childcare, “she’ll be right” just doesn’t cut it.

In the lead up to our Managing Director’s special day, our team planned a surprise ‘Almost Mr & Mrs’ shower.

Our food-loving crew brought a plate to share, and between the mountain of delicious food, cake, and (hopefully) some helpful marriage advice, it was the perfect way to celebrate Nicole and Adam. A big thank you to everyone who contributed and made the day feel extra special.

Nicole is such a wonderful and supportive leader, so it meant a lot to do something special for her. Adam has fit into the OSCAR Care Group team so naturally, and we couldn’t be happier for them both.

Understanding autism doesn’t always look the way you think.
Sometimes it looks like:
• Serving the same meal (again)
• Not asking for “just one bite”
• Leaving the plate exactly how they like it

Groundbreaking? No. Important? Very. Because when something feels familiar and comfortable, that’s where small wins can start.

Take egg-stra care this Easter weekend

As we enjoy time with family, food and traditions, it’s important to keep food safety front of mind — especially when preparing and sharing meals.

Here are a few simple ways to reduce risk this Easter:

🧊 Keep raw meat, seafood, dairy and other high-risk foods in an insulated cool box or esky with plenty of ice
❄️ Avoid overloading your fridge or freezer, as this can impact their ability to keep food safely chilled
🥤 Store drinks in eskies to allow more space in the fridge for perishable items
🍪 Avoid tasting raw mixtures or dough, as uncooked eggs may carry harmful bacteria
🐟 Purchase seafood no earlier than the day before you plan to consume it

Small steps like these can help protect the health and wellbeing of those in your care.
