We are tantalisingly close to locking in a venue for a Northern Rivers Reverse Garbage!! BUT we need you to show your support to help us seal the deal!!

Brisbane City Council has a wealth of resources on their website!

Council is committed to reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill in Brisbane by encouraging reuse, repair, upcycling and sharing as a key opportunity to build a cleaner, greener and more sustainable city.

This is our primary website for our project that is investigating what is possible in the Northern Rivers in terms of accelerating the conversion of waste into jobs for our community.

We are a project of Mullum Cares, a Not for Profit organisation that supports and promotes the growing consumer demand for conservation.

We are accepting fabric waste donations of good quality textiles that we can use in our education programs. They can be pre or post consumer waste. Once we have a ragging machine we will be able to process low quality textiles for creative use!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

Reverse Garbage is a project of local not for profit, Mullum Cares Incorporated.

Mullum Cares started the Library of STU out of founder, Sasha Mainsbridge’s, garage. Due to increasing Covid restrictions, items that ‘overflowed’ the two Library of Stuff storerooms are no longer allowed to be stored in the big room downstairs at the Scout Hall so many of these items have been brought back to Sasha’s garage. BUT we were already starting to store items for our new projects, Salvage Culture and Reverse Garbage Northern Rivers!!

Here’s the kicker. Council gave us consent to put a shipping container next to the Scout Hall opposite the Telstra tower on River Tce, Mullum last year as we went for a grant knowing that we’d quickly run out of room. We didn’t get the grant but got a donation so wanted to proceed with purchasing a shipping container but council said their consent was dependant on us getting the grant😫😫😫

There is enough room to put two 20ft shipping containers back to back on this small piece of road verge next to the Scout Hall. One for the Library of Stuff and one for Reverse Garbage.

Our Reverse Garbage enterprise is looking for a home. We have a sister project, Salvage Culture that intends to maximise the benefit of our operations by directing the waste streams we seek to ensure our local upcyclers have easy access to the materials they work with. Salvage Culture will also provide an online shop in addition to the physical showroom at the Reverse Garbage site (once we have one) for local upcyclers to sell their wares.

More goodness involved in our plan is to increase the store of assets in our Library of STUFF Mullumbimby to facilitate a program of Upcyling Workshops where the students can borrow the upcyling tools needed while they are finding their feet. We have funding and our priority is to get a kick ass website up and pay local Master Upcyclers an ethical teaching wage to share their skills with aspiring local makers.

We are passionate about supporting and promoting a local circular economy in our region. We are Mullum Cares Incorporated and that’s how we roll😄
