Missed our recent webinar on variable rate nitrogen application?

In this practical session, Tim Neale from Data Farming and Ed Scott from Field Systems explored how growers can use paddock variability, seasonal conditions, soil moisture information and yield potential to make more informed nitrogen decisions. The webinar also highlighted how information from the Riverine Plains weather station network can support seasonal decision-making. This work is supported by the Victorian Drought Hub, through funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund.

What a fantastic few days at the AusAgritech Showcase in Brisbane last week! Riverine Plains' Head of Farmer Engagement, Kate Coffey, and Head of Farming Systems, Jane McInnes, were proud to be part of the event.

Jane had the opportunity to present the Industry Impact Award and deliver a reverse pitch workshop on SCOUT for the Riverine Plains, showcasing opportunities to connect innovation with on-farm challenges. It was a great event filled with inspiring conversations and the chance to meet so many passionate and innovative people working across agriculture and agtech.

A huge congratulations to all the award winners and finalists. Your work continues to drive innovation and positive impact across the agricultural sector.

Exploring lower-cost nitrogen options on-farm? 🌱
As part of a Grains Research and Development Corporation National Grower Network investment, Riverine Plains is working with growers to understand how companion cropping legumes can support nitrogen supply.

We spoke with Adam Feuerherdt (Coreen, southern NSW) about how vetch is fitting into his system. In this video, Adam shares insights on vetch in livestock systems, vetch for hay production, companion cropping vetch with canola and managing seasonal and financial risk.

A key takeaway from the Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) Conference was the importance of building strong and adaptable farming businesses. Discussions highlighted the role of practical tools, timely information and trusted networks in helping farmers make confident decisions in increasingly variable conditions.

Technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), farm mapping and digital decision-support tools, has a growing role to play — but farmers are all at different points along the adoption curve. For these tools to be useful, they need to be simple, locally relevant and clearly linked to better farm business outcomes.
