These images show early establishment of our wheat–vetch companion cropping demonstration trial at our Uncle Toby’s site, Corowa. This is a critical phase for setting up strong crop and companion crop performance ahead of termination treatments.

Over the past two seasons at our Sanger trial site, we found that terminating vetch at the tillering stage in wheat consistently resulted in higher yields compared with later termination timings. The results highlight the importance of balancing the nitrogen benefits of vetch with potential competition for moisture and resources.

We’re now building on this work at paddock scale in Corowa, demonstrating how early vetch termination can be integrated into commercial farming systems while continuing to assess impacts on crop growth, nitrogen dynamics and grain yield and quality.

Riverine Plains Field Trial Manager Matt De Roos (left), pictured alongside our previous Hanrahan Family Scholar James White (right), recently had the incredible opportunity to attend the Marcus Oldham Rural Leadership Program 🌾

Over the course of the program, Matt connected with future leaders in agriculture from right across Australia, deepened his understanding of effective leadership in the sector, and gained real insight into what drives great leaders forward.

A huge thank you to AgriFutures Australia for their sponsorship of Matt's place and Marcus Oldham for such a valuable and inspiring experience!

Riverine Plains is proud to be recognised alongside some outstanding initiatives supporting the growth of Australia’s agritech ecosystem.

We are focused on bridging the gap between innovation and on-farm reality, helping ensure new ideas are tested, validated and shaped by real farming systems so they can deliver meaningful impact for growers.

The Sector Builder Award highlights the importance of the often unseen work that sits behind successful agritech adoption: collaboration, capability building and creating pathways for ideas to move from concept to reality.

Congratulations to all nominees!

🏗️ Sector Builder Nominees Announced!

Riverine Plains members will gain some insight into this trial in this year's Trial Book - coming soon!
