The Eclectic Home Organiser

The Eclectic Home Organiser Unconventional neat freak. Organised doesn't have to mean boring! My home is organised, VERY organised, but it doesn’t resemble a magazine shoot.

It’s eclectic; it has hand-me-down rugs, brand new ‘retro’ sofas, vintage Ikea shelves (true), swap meet soda syphons and my sister-in-law’s beanbags. It has space, it flows, it’s a calming place to enter and everything has a home to nest in, or is proudly and purposely displayed. Your ‘stuff’ is an outward reflection of who you are, ‘organised’ doesn’t have to mean matching your bathmats with yo

ur shower gel, or rows of cereal filled mason jars lining open concept shelving. Your things should be carefully curated, an exhibition about you, like Elvis and Graceland, but with probably less sequins! Together we select your beautiful, funky, unique items and display them without distraction from that pile of junk mail, kids shoes and random screw that fell out of thin air and now lives on the draining board. Together we organise usable spaces that are easily accessible for everyday items. You really don’t need to showcase that veggie spiraliser next to your kid’s netball uniform. Together we create long-term storage for items that are used occasionally and for items you simply cannot part with. And together we remove items that clutter your space, your time and your life. Clients have described me as “straightforward and thorough”, but don’t worry; I’m not quite the Gordon Ramsay of home organisation!

Matchy matchy does not mean organised. Storing quinoa, brown rice and organic powdered platypus milk in mason jars with twee chalkboard labels does not mean organised. The photo is of my teacher’s desk. It has 12 years of programming, resources and samples stored in this one space. It functioned exactly as an ordered space should. I could find what I needed in a matter of minutes. No amount of chartreuse arch lever files, novelty paper clips or ombre sticky notes could make it more efficient. There is being organised and there is looking organised. Some people want both, some people put function over aesthetics. For me, it depends on the area, the function and the cost.

My eldest girl has her quirks, lots of them. She adores shiny things, like the gargantuan coconut crab Tamatoa. She has a shoebox full of rocks, shells, broken glass and reflective foil stickers that she refuses to use. One of the most disgusting, and thankfully no longer peculiarities, was hoarding used lolly wrappers and not just her own! Last year she took tips from her mother’s organising ways and scurried away her secret, sticky, sweet bounty. Hidden behind the books on her highest shelf she cultivated a feast fit for a rodent. Solution? I waited until she was at school (stealing treasure is a delicate operation and I knew she’d crack the sh*ts); I took a photo of her stash and threw it all away. I’m not completely evil, I framed the photo for her, in a silver shiny frame, and I placed it where the rubbish once was. Her reaction? Laughter, she knew what she was doing was unhygienic, but she didn’t know how to stop. Today she no longer collects rubbish, it stopped that very day and her photo is proudly displayed along side her prized book collection.

WHO AM I?

Hello, I’m Zoe, a self confessed lover of all things organised. I also dig a bit of list writing. My organised home is individual, it’s full of things I love and not full of things I don’t need. It’s not matchy matchy, so no purposely colour coordinated wicker storage baskets or mass-produced ‘art prints’. I’m also a bit of a tightwad and environmentalist; so unnecessary buying is not something I do.

HOW DID I GET ORGANISED?

For 13 years I was a school visual arts teacher, covertly perfecting my organising skills. I could pull off a whole school art exhibition in a space the size of a shoe-box whilst ‘hiding’ an infinite number of pop-sticks, crusty glue brushes, unfinished ‘cardboard cities’ and paint stained sinks. I have a BA (Hons) in 3 Dimensional Design and a natural knack for spatial awareness, you should see me reverse park. I’m also an only child, so when I was 8, categorising toys for fun, was what I thought was playing.

HOW DID THE ECLECTIC HOME ORGANISER BEGIN?

After catching my friend going through my drawers and taking notes it transpired that she envied my home. I was more than happy to help when she asked if I could give her a hand organising her own. What better way to spend a day than sorting through junk mail, collating all the biros into one drawer and rearranging the haphazardly hung family photos (you’ll come around). That’s when I knew I could help others become organised and feed the neat freak within me!

WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER?

Together we can:

• De-clutter, arrange and store items.
• Rearrange furnishings to create space and flow.
• Hang photos and pictures. Create displays of precious things.
• Refresh paint and hang curtains.
• Develop easy to use systems to stay organised.
• Plan methods to reduce cleaning time.
• Conduct a long-term major overhaul if things are too overwhelming.

YOU GET TO DECIDE, your organising service will be as unique as you, as unique as your home and your things. You may want to focus on one room, a garden shed or the whole house. We can discuss your needs in the FREE 15 minute phone consultation. An organised home brings more time, more breathing space and more peace.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

During the initial FREE phone consultation we would have discussed your particular needs. You then choose from a number of services to suit your requirements and your budget. We start with an initial 4 hour service ($320) and you may want to add additional hours either up front, on the day (time permitting) or at a later date. You can find out more about the initial service and the additional hours in the SERVICE section.

I’M IN. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Send me a personal message via Facebook messenger. I will get back to you and arrange a suitable time for our 15-minute phone consultation. From there we can establish what service/hours would suit you best and schedule a time for your organised home to begin.

REMEMBER ORGANISED DOESN’T HAVE TO MEAN BORING!
