Best of luck to everyone taking part in this year's Denman Westpac Charity Horse Ride, in support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter!

Now in its 36th year, this much-loved event brings around 100 riders from all over NSW together for a 20- 25 km ride through private property and vineyards around Denman, suitable for riders of all levels, and all in support of a service that means so much to our regional communities.

This year, Malabar was proud to cover the cost of brand new event banners, after the old ones showed some well-earned wear and tear from a decade of use on the trail.

The ride kicks off Saturday 12th September at Denman Pony Club Grounds. Good luck to all the riders and enjoy the ride!

🏉 Malabar has proudly sponsored Denman Rugby League Football Club for the 2026 season, backing jersey #14 across all senior teams. Denman RLFC provides senior rugby league opportunities for men & women 17+ in the Hunter Valley Group 21 Competition.

The men's season has wrapped up, and the ladies are through to the semi-finals after a strong win on the weekend. Good luck, ladies! 💪

Malabar is proud to have partnered with the Muswellbrook South Public School P&C Association to fund more than 150 new books for the school library.

Some of the library's existing titles dated back to the 1980s, meaning students were often researching with information that had long since been superseded. The new collection covers History, Science, Culture, Transportation, Weather, Habitats, Space, Time and more resources that both students and staff can rely on.

Access to accurate, up-to-date information is fundamental to a good education, and we're pleased to have been able to support the school and its P&C in making that happen.

We are proud to support the McCully's Gap Hall Committee's recent fundraiser, "The Gap, Two-Step Social."

Held on Saturday 11 July, the evening brought local families and rural communities together for a night of live music and dancing, reviving the country dance socials once held at the historic hall (established 1925).

Malabar donated a $250 Chop Shop voucher, raffled on the night and won by local legend Mick Keegan! 🎟️

Funds raised will go towards the ongoing maintenance and preservation of McCully's Gap Hall, keeping this important community hub thriving for years to come.

Great to see so many locals out supporting such a great cause! 🙌

From the classroom to the coalface

What started as a night learning about mining careers turned into a day two students won't forget.

Ethan and Myles each won a tour of a working mine at the NSW Mining Careers Info Nights, and last week they went underground at our Maxwell Underground Mine, dads in tow, hosted by our Training Coordinator Ryan Turton.

The highlight? Watching a continuous miner cutting coal and loading a shuttle car.

"The power of the equipment, combined with the thunderous sounds echoing through the mine, left both Ethan and Myles amazed and captivated," Ryan said.

They also stood at the longwall face and got a real sense of the engineering and technology behind modern underground mining. Best of all were the conversations with thoughtful questions from the boys, dads just as engaged, and plenty of talk about what a future career in the industry might look like.

We're proud to open our doors to the next generation of miners. If Friday's visit was anything to go by, the industry's future is in curious, capable hands.

Earlier this month, our team came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week - a time to honour the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The Maxwell Underground Mine operates on Wonnarua/Wanaruah Country, and we are proud to acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Elders past and present who have cared for this land for generations.

From shared stories to shared meals, the week was a reminder of the importance of listening, learning and walking together, not just during NAIDOC Week, but all year round.

Last week, we officially opened the Maxwell Underground Mine - a proud milestone for Malabar, our workforce and the Upper Hunter.

The celebration brought together the people who made it possible: our employees, contractors, suppliers, neighbouring landholders and local businesses who have helped take Maxwell from a vision to a working underground mine supporting 430 long-term jobs.

We were honoured to be joined by the Hon. Yasmin Catley MP, Meryl Swanson MP, Dan Repacholi MP, the Hon. Emily Suvaal MLC, Dave Layzell MP, and Mayor Jeff Drayton with representatives of Muswellbrook Shire Council.

Our team lives locally, works locally and contributes locally from Muswellbrook, Denman, Aberdeen, Scone, Singleton and the surrounding towns. This milestone belongs to them, and to a region Maxwell will be part of for decades to come.
