Malabar is proud to support the next generation of squash talent in our region!

On 1st and 2nd August, 10 local juniors from Muswellbrook Squash Club will travel to Singleton to compete in the Squash NSW Junior Country Championships, a silver-ranked event that draws junior players from across the state competing for state ranking points.

Malabar is pleased to have donated $1,600 to cover court hire and entry fees for all 10 competitors, making sure that cost is no barrier for any of our local kids who want to compete at this level.

At Malabar, investing in our local community goes hand in hand with everything we do. The Hunter Valley is our home, and supporting young people to get out, compete and represent their region is something we're genuinely passionate about.

To the 10 juniors heading to Singleton, we wish you the best of luck. We'll be cheering you on!

Congratulations Penny Woodward: Women in Mining Award Winner 2026!

We are absolutely thrilled that Penny Woodward, Infrastructure Manager at Malabar Resources, has won the Exceptional Woman Award at the NSW Mining: Women in Mining Awards 2026!

From performing as a professional bassoon player in touring orchestras to restarting a coal preparation plant that had sat idle for seven years, Penny has never been afraid to take on a challenge. The resilience and dedication she forged as a world-class musician never left her, and mining is all the better for it.

Since joining Malabar Resources in 2022, Penny has been an extraordinary force, playing a pivotal role in the start-up of our CHPP and going on to lead a multidisciplinary team of around 25 people as our Infrastructure Manager.

Penny's impact goes beyond our mine. As Chairperson of the NSW branch of the Australian Coal Preparation Society, she actively advocates for making mining a more welcoming career path for women because she knows firsthand what's possible when you back yourself.

Last night, that commitment, courage and brilliance was recognised on the biggest stage in our industry!

Penny, we couldn't be prouder. This award is so very well deserved. Congratulations!

Last week, we had the pleasure of meeting with the Muswellbrook Rams Senior RLFC's Ladies Tackle Team!

Malabar was proud to donate $1,000 worth of strapping tape (112 rolls) to help the team get ready for the season ahead. With a high demand for first aid supplies, we wanted to make sure these women had what they needed to take the field safely and confidently.

It's a privilege to support local sport and the incredible women who give it their all every week. We can't wait to see what this season brings for the RAMS Ladies Tackle Team! Best of luck for the season ahead. We are cheering you on!

At Malabar, we're proud to support the people who show up when it matters most.

We're donating $1,000 to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service - Official Site ahead of their Upper Hunter Rescue Ball on 22nd August at Singleton Civic Centre, an evening celebrating the extraordinary work of a team that never stops.

Flying four helicopters across three bases in Belmont, Tamworth and Lismore, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service provides around-the-clock emergency aeromedical care to 1.5 million people across Northern NSW. From newborns needing urgent transport to search and rescue missions in the state's most remote terrain, they are an essential part of our community's emergency care network.

Thank you to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and the entire team for everything you do.

MAJOR MILESTONE: Maxwell Underground Longwall is in production.

Today, Maxwell Underground Longwall mined its first full shear of coal, a significant milestone in what has been a substantial journey.

Malabar's Hunter Valley operation received NSW Government approval in December 2020. Construction of the underground mine commenced in May 2022 with the first coal shipped from bord & pillar operations in the first half of 2023.

The path from approval to first longwall coal has involved thousands of people, an enormous amount of work and the support of our community, customers, and financial markets.

The final transition to production involved a concentrated month of work relocating the longwall equipment from the mini build pad on the surface to underground, upgrading conveyors and infrastructure, and completing civil and ventilation works to make the longwall panel ready to be extracted.

Reaching this point reflects the scale and pace of ex*****on required to bring a new longwall operation online and the dedication of our employees, contractors and suppliers. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this incredible milestone.
