It is Monday morning.

The scariest place to be is stuck in the same place you were last year.

Same month. Same results. Same conversation in my head about what I was going to do differently next time.

There is a particular kind of pain in that. Not loud enough to force a decision. Just constant enough to exhaust you.

What I noticed about myself during that period was the thing I resisted most was the thing I needed most.

I had two options in front of me.
Keep trying to figure it out alone. Which had already cost me more time and money than I wanted to admit. And was quietly costing me more each week I stayed in the same place.
Or ask for help from someone who had already solved the problem I was stuck inside.

My pride made the first option feel safer. My results told a different story.

When I finally asked for help, I found out something I hadn't been able to see on my own.
I could not see what was keeping me stuck because I was too close to it. That is not a character flaw. It is just how it works. You cannot read the label from inside the jar.

What I got was clarity on exactly what I was doing that was producing the same result. And a clear path forward that I had not been able to build for myself.

The shift was not magical. It was structural.
If you are in the same place you were six months ago and the honest answer is that not much has changed… that is worth paying attention to.

Staying stuck has a price too. Its just easier to ignore...

When I was stuck in my business, I asked a lot of people for advice.

Most of them were in the same position I was in.

Same job for years.
Same doubts.
Same reasons why change was too risky.

They told me I couldn't do it. That most businesses fail.
That I'd be back in a classroom within twelve months.
That I didn't know where clients would come from.

And they weren't wrong to say it. They were answering from the only map they had.

The problem was I was using their map to navigate somewhere they had never been.
The moment I realised that I started looking for people who were already living what I was trying to build.

Coaches who had left stable careers. People who had made the decision I wanted to make and the conversations were completely different. You see you should only get advice from people that are actually doing the thing that you want to do and who are where you want to be.

Once I started speaking to those people they asked me the right questions...
They asked what was stopping me from trying. They pointed to others who had made it work. They spoke about the future like it was something you could shape rather than something that happened to you.

I started modelling how they thought. How they made decisions. What they paid attention to and what they ignored.

And eventually I made the decision I had been afraid of. Left a permanent teaching position. Started building.

The advice didn't change my circumstances. It changed what I believed was possible inside them.

If there is an area of your life or business that feels stuck right now… look carefully at who you have been taking counsel from.

Not their intentions. Their position.

Advice is only as useful as the experience behind it.

𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗼, 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻.

No guarantees.
No steady income.
Full of fear and self doubt.

Just a hope that I could earn a living helping people.
I remember my last day like it was yesterday.
I stood in an empty classroom, fluorescent lights humming above me, with tears rolling down my cheeks closing the door on my old life
…and I felt two things: fear and fire.

Fear of the unknown.

And fire for what was possible, if I just backed myself.
But let’s not romanticise it.

That first year was brutal.
I traded structure for chaos.
A salary for uncertainty
and I was winging it hoping it would work.

There were nights I lay awake wondering how I was going to pay the mortgage.
Days I questioned if I was completely delusional.
Moments I thought about crawling back to that safe prison.
I got behind on my mortgage.
I doubted my worth.

I did 40 sales calls in a row and got nothing but no’s.
It felt like I was pouring everything into a dream that no one could see but me.

But I made a decision.
That I was going to do whatever it took to make this work.
That I was going to show up every day, even when it felt like nothing was working.
That I would bet on myself: again and again, until the results caught up.

And they did.
Not overnight.
But eventually.

Because I kept going.

I learned how to build a real business.

I let go of the fear of being seen and started showing up in my full truth.
And now, four years later… I’m coaching incredible humans.
Making an income that reflects my impact.

Spending real time with my family.
And building a life that feels like mine.

Not because I’m special.

But because I said yes to myself and never took it back.

So if you’re in that in-between space…

If you’ve left something safe and are questioning whether you’ve made the right call…

Let this be your reminder:
You’re allowed to want more.
You’re allowed to feel scared.

But the only way to fail is to give up.
Back yourself.

Do the scary thing.

Say yes to the dream again- even if today it feels hard.
Your future self is already proud of you.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭:

Your limiting beliefs.

How do I know that?
Because I had them, too!

You see, before I started coaching, I thought of that line of work as a scam. I saw people talking about becoming a life coach, creating a business and leaving their stable jobs… but I was convinced those were all paid actors.

That was the first limiting belief.
At that time, I was a full-time Primary School Teacher, the source of several other limiting beliefs.

One was the story that I developed about how I just didn't have the time to run a coaching business.

The other was impostor syndrome.

I thought, "Who am I to coach people? I'm just an teacher. I've never coached before and I don't have a program. I'm not ready for this."

Finally, there was the good old limiting belief that I needed to be the best to succeed.
Do you recognise yourself in some or all of these?

Well, let me tell you how I got over my limiting beliefs - it might resonate with you more than you expect!

𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭, 𝐈 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲.
I actually met those who gave the testimonials that I’d watched and read.
And when I started doing my own programs and getting results, those I coached began giving their own testimonies!

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡.
So, I took a years leave without pay from my permanent teaching job and started working on my coaching program.
It was great to go all in… or so I thought. I realised the year without pay left me with a safety net and I was telling myself the story that if it didn’t work out I had a year off to heal and then I could go back to teaching.

So I pulled the pin and resigned from my job!

It might seem like an insanely brave decision to just make that cut…

But if you take a closer look, you'll find that it's all about pursuing the calling that you love. At that point, it's no longer a thing of courage but of pure necessity!

𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭.
And that's total crap!

All you need to do is be consistent, learn through doing and stay one chapter ahead of the person you're coaching.

Now that you've read my story, you can deal with your limiting beliefs, too.

𝐈𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚
Just over 5 years ago I remember driving to school after failing our school review thinking it would be easier to just veer off the road and hit a tree rather than going to work.

I felt like a complete failure.
I had no purpose, no direction, little self esteem and with a mortgage as the sole income earner I was wondering how did I get myself into this position.

Something had to change.

I had to be 100% honest with myself.

So I took a years leave without pay from my job and borrowed money from my mum who bless her lent me the resources to do some courses that would change the direction of my life forever.

Then this happened...
My first year of coaching I helped teachers that were stressed, overwhelmed and burnt out to rediscover passion and joy in their work.

Then I started working with coaches to improve the systems and mindset in their business and start helping turn their part time hobby into their dream business. Now I have resigned from my full time permanent teaching job to help people full time. The fulfilment I felt from helping people I couldn't describe!

Now I had a lot of lessons to learn.
I had no idea...
How to embody the identity of a successful coach.
How to show up every day as the best version of me... even when i was full of doubt and wasn't sure I could make it work.
How to market
How to automate systems and processes in my business
How to generate leads
And the list goes on

However I DID have a purpose and I DID continue to invest in myself and continue to learn the skills I needed.

Someone once told me "Russell the more you invest in yourself the wealthier you become"
Anyone can turn their life around.

I am so grateful I made the decision to become something more.

You never know what life has in store for you when you decide to grow.
And you never know who you could help by who you choose to become.
