Built to Last on the Manning River

Located in Taree along the Manning River, this project involved replacing flood-damaged infrastructure with a new design engineered to withstand a 1% (100-year) flood event.

The structure was recently tested by a one-in-500-year flood and held strong — proving the durability and longevity of our work.

The previous seawall had failed due to undermining and erosion, so this rebuild ensures the site is now properly stabilised and built to last.

We’re currently undertaking works for the Port of Newcastle, upgrading the Port Authority dock used by the pilot vessels — the team responsible for safely guiding large ships into the harbour.

The existing fenders and timbers had reached the end of their service life, and we’re now replacing timbers, backing blocks, and rubber fenders to ensure the structure remains safe, durable, and fit for daily operations.

This work is taking place on the Pilot Station refuelling wharf, where reliability and safety are key.

When working with structural timber and composite piles, precision is everything. A clean, accurate cut means a better fit, stronger joins, and a longer-lasting result — especially when you’re working on the water.

At M+J Marine, we invest in the right tools to ensure every project meets our standard — built to last, and built with precision.

While chainsaws are great for speed, they often leave a rough, uneven surface that requires extra clean-up before installation. It’s the small details that make a big difference in quality and efficiency on site.

Rebuilding and protecting our waterways starts at the riverbank.
Our team specialises in rehabilitating riverbanks to create strong, stable foundations that encourage natural mangrove growth. Mangroves help protect shorelines from erosion, filter water, and provide vital habitats for marine life — an investment in a healthier, more resilient environment for generations to come.

Composite piles bring long-term durability, but their flexibility makes them tricky to install. At M&J Marine, we’ve developed specialised methods to overcome this challenge. By using custom cushioning systems, we protect the pile from damage while ensuring it’s driven straight, plumb, and secure — even under heavy loads.
It’s about combining innovation with experience to deliver reliable waterfront structures.

This 12m x 7.5m aluminium barge was designed for a purpose: moving rock and material into shallow, sensitive intertidal spaces. With its low draft and 65t load capacity, it helps us deliver projects like riverbank stabilisation and oyster reef restoration — building stronger, healthier waterways.
A lighter footprint. A stronger result. That’s the M&J Marine way.

This new seawall was built using the Loc-a-Bloc system – engineered for flood resilience. Built to last through changing river conditions, it safeguards your property, prevents erosion, and reduces costly repairs down the track.

From repair to full-scale construction, M+J Marine delivers solutions that stand the test of time.

Restoring Reefs, Reviving Habitats!

Wagonga Inlet, Narooma is now home to a first-of-its-kind shellfish reef restoration in Batemans Bay Marine Park. M+J Marine was engaged to construct the reef bases, supporting both Sydney Rock Oyster and Australian Flat Oyster habitats.

These intertidal and subtidal reefs are designed to improve water quality, increase fish numbers, and protect the shoreline through natural erosion control and revegetation. Proud to contribute to this innovative estuarine restoration project.

The old jetty and pontoon at The Wrecky Club had reached the end of its life, with damaged piles, rotting timbers, and structural failure.
Mid Coast Council engaged M&J Marine to design, demolish, and rebuild this important community asset. The result? A brand-new 55m fixed jetty with a 10m pontoon, featuring an aluminium superstructure, FRP decking and piles, and a HDPE-wrapped floating pontoon — built to last.

Future-Proofing Cove Marine with Composite Piles

Cove Marine, a family-owned shipyard in Port Stephens, has been part of the local maritime community for over 20 years. The marina’s timber piles were deteriorating due to marine borers, erosion, and constant exposure to harsh coastal conditions—an issue common across Australia’s waterways. To replace 10 mooring piles near the main wharf, they needed a solution that would outlast traditional timber and untreated steel, which often require costly, frequent maintenance.

M&J Marine Services provided the answer with advanced fiber-reinforced composite piles. This innovative material is resistant to biological and chemical degradation, offering a design life of more than 50 years while reducing environmental impact. Installed efficiently by our barge team and driven to exact depths, these composite piles now secure the marina against tidal forces, delivering long-term durability and peace of mind for Cove Marine.
