The work we care about most is always relational. It's about people. It shows itself in our conversations, the decisions we make together and in the inevitable times of pressure.

We have special guest Matt Steele, join us at the next Good Hunter to explore how leaders can remain grounded in the midst of relationship challenges.

Matt will share Bowen Family Systems Theory as a resource for navigating the tensions that naturally arise in teams, organisations and communities. Expect a thoughtful, practical conversation about staying connected to your values, holding your own centre, and bringing more clarity to the way you lead.

Join us for thoughtful conversation, good coffee, and a room full of people committed to doing meaningful work well.

Good Hunter is built for conversations that help us see our work, and each other, with fresh eyes.

Meet Matt Steele. A coach, pastoral supervisor, trainer and systems thinker who works with people navigating the complexity of leadership, relationships and change.

Matt knows that relationships can be the place where our best work begins. They’re also where tension can build, patterns can repeat, and the pressure to keep everyone steady can pull us away from our own clarity.

At our next Good Hunter, Matt will introduce Bowen Family Systems Theory and share a practical way to understand the emotional currents moving through teams, organisations and communities.

Birds of a feather: are we too stuck together?

Come to hear a different perspective on leadership. Join the discussion. Leave with greater clarity about how to stay grounded, connected and purposeful when relationships feel complex.

A new chapter for an organisation that has changed countless lives.

Last week, Luke, Liz and Jess joined the Newcastle community to celebrate the opening of Jenny's Place Domestic Violence & Homelessness Support’s new premises, made possible by the generosity of so many local people and organisations.

For almost 50 years, Jenny’s Place has provided safety and support to women and children experiencing domestic violence and homelessness. This new centre creates more space for that vital work to continue, with dignity, care and connection at its heart.

We’re incredibly proud of our longstanding partnership with the Jenny’s Place team and all they do to help build the Newcastle we believe in: one that is safer, kinder and stronger together.

“Purpose isn’t something we find. It’s something we cultivate, one decision, one act of courage and one act of love at a time.”

At last week’s Good Hunter, we invited Angelo Piccione to share a little of his life story.
He began by giving everyone a small seed and spoke about how life’s encouragements and challenges can plant things in us, often beyond our control. Those seeds can sit in the ground for years and never grow, but at some point, someone has to choose to water them and see what they might become.

Angelo’s seeds came through injury, grief, a partner’s belief in him, a nephew who needed better care, and a 12-year-old niece named Aliyah whose death changed everything. He didn’t wait until the conditions were perfect, he just kept watering what had been planted.
That’s how a rugby league career became a psychology degree, a disability support business - Good Shepherd Support Services, a gala that raised $10k for domestic violence, and now a plan to run 1,680kms from Newcastle to Beenleigh AND BACK for Jenny's Place Domestic Violence & Homelessness Support!

What seed have you been given?

His full story is on our website 👉 https://mezzanine.co/articles/2026/the-seeds-we-choose-to-water/

At the next Good Hunter, we’re joined by Angelo Piccione from Good Shepherd Support Services, someone whose life has been shaped by adversity, love and an unshakeable belief in what’s possible.

Through grief, foster parenting, purpose-driven work, and a huge 2027 challenge, running 1680km from Newcastle to Beenleigh and back to raise awareness of domestic violence and funds for the work of Jenny's Place Domestic Violence & Homelessness Support, Angelo’s story is one of turning adversity into action.
He calls himself The Dreamer. After hearing his story, you’ll understand why.

At Good Hunter, we bring together leaders, founders and curious humans who believe business can be a force for good.
Come along to be inspired, challenged, and reminded what’s possible when purpose becomes more than an idea.

Good Hunter exists for stories like this one.

Meet Angelo. A Polynesian kid who once had his whole future mapped out on a rugby league field. Until life changed course, and he had to find a new way forward.

From NRL dreams to foster parenting. Building an NDIS organisation, Good Shepherd Support Services, and losing his 12-year-old niece to domestic violence. He is now training for a 1,680km run from Newcastle to Beenleigh AND back in 2027, in partnership with Jenny's Place Domestic Violence & Homelessness Support, to raise awareness and funds for domestic violence.

They doubted the kid. They questioned the man. He kept running anyway.

Join us and hear his story firsthand, join the discussion and leave inspired and challenged to be bold in your own pursuits.

Bringing people together for honest conversations is where change happens.

Last month, Jess from our team attended the Prelude Australia Women in Leadership Fundraiser, an event Mezzanine was proud to sponsor. And it was the kind of night that reminds you why this work matters.

One of the speakers, Viv Allanson OAM stood up and asked the room: "What are you prepared to lose today?" Not what are you prepared to gain. What are you prepared to lose. That question lands differently. It asks you to look at where your values stop being comfortable, and whether you're willing to honour them anyway. (We loved that her Rundle Tailoring suit is literally lined with her guiding values. Now that's wearing your purpose.)

She also spoke about building teams "who would go to battle for you". Through trust, genuine care and a shared sense of purpose. Because that's what people give everything for. Not a job title. A reason.

It was great hearing from Ben Jeffries, Mikaela Koelma and Nuatali Nelmes GAICD who also shared their own stories and insights on the night.

Congrats to Kimberly Lewis and the entire Prelude team on another incredible event. We're proud to support organisations like Prelude, showing up every single day for the people who need it most in our community.

Yesterday morning at Good Hunter, we had Richard Stark from Beyond Bank in the room sharing a few of the moments that have shaped his life and career. The opportunities he took. The ones he walked past. And why he’d make the same choices again.

There were plenty of laughs and some great conversation around the big bench as people shared their own sliding-door moments.

Our provocations:
What’s an opportunity that changed the direction of your life or career?
When have you taken a risk that paid off?
And have you ever walked past an open door because it just wasn’t the right one?

A big thank you to Richard for bringing such honesty, humour and generosity to the morning. And thank you to everyone who came along, joined in, and shared a bit of their own story.

Thanks also to our Good Hunter sponsors, INNX.hub and B Lab Australia & Aotearoa NZ, for helping make these conversations possible. That’s what Good Hunter is all about. Good people, good conversation, and a bit of space to think about the things that shape how we show up in work, life and community.

Join us at the next one.

Some moments change the course of everything.
A decision, a conversation, an opportunity you almost walked away from… but didn't.

This month, we're exploring those sliding door moments, the ones that shape our path more than we realise.

We're joined by Richard Stark from Beyond Bank, who'll be sharing his own story and guiding the conversation across three themes we think every leader needs to sit with: the moments that shaped us, the power of real connection and community, and what it means to stay grounded, focused and intentional every day.

What's one moment that changed things for you?

We're back next month for the good hunter round table, and we've got a brilliant guest, Richard Stark from Beyond Bank, with plenty of real stories and the kind of wisdom that only comes from lived experience.

He'll be sharing the sliding door moments that shaped his career, the power of genuine connection, and what intentional, purpose-led thinking looks like in practice.
Come along and leave with something worth holding onto.
