We work with individuals & workplaces to deliver engaging & effective courses, health promotion programs and consultation services including Mental Health First Aid Courses. If you’re looking for practical solutions to health, nutrition and fitness at work, you’ve come to the right place. At Core Health Consulting we have a range of health promotion programs to suit your business and budget – and

they work! Before founding Core Health Consulting in 2007, Tammy Farrell spent 10 years working in intensive care and cardiac cath labs as a registered nurse. Working in those environments it was clear that many people simply didn’t understand how their bodies worked. Patients were arriving in intensive care after months of suffering symptoms that could have been managed much earlier. After the sudden death of a friend Tammy quit nursing and began educating people and businesses about health and wellness. Since then we’ve helped thousands of employees take action, seek help and regain their health through a range of health promotion programs that really work. We are passionate about health and wellness education and would love to help your workplace become healthier too, so, give us a call today on 1300 663 062 and let Core Health Consulting help your workplace become fitter, healthier and more productive!

I notice team dynamics everywhere I go, and on a recent cruise, the morning waitstaff left a big impression on me.

It was clear this team worked hard, communicated clearly, and respected each other. They brought genuine warmth to every table, even when pressure was obvious. The standard always stayed high, despite any tension.

I also spoke with them about being away from family for months at a time. They missed their kids, their homes, and there was real sacrifice behind the smiles, despite accepting those things as a reality of the job.

It was amazing the relationship and connection we formed with our waitstaff.

By the last day, tears were shed saying goodbye, and it wasn’t because they followed some perfect service script. This was a product of people who felt connected to the work, trusting of their team, and proud of what they do. It came across in everything we experienced on board.

For me, this reenforced the fact that every workplace has the opportunity to build a culture that supports workers, and benefits alongside them because of it.

Is this kind of culture visible on your worksite? How are you supporting your workers so they can perform at their best?

Reach out if you need help building a more resilient team.

You finish shift, have a quick call home, then wake up and do it all again. For remote workers, that can be life for weeks.

And it’s not just FIFO. Rail crews working remote lines, construction teams living away from home, mine-site workers and regional trades crews can all be a long way from family, routine and the people who would normally notice when something is off.

The job still needs doing. The roster still runs. But fatigue builds, patience gets shorter and concentration drops.

FIFOMa8 was built for that reality.

It’s a practical programme for isolated workforces, combining resilience training, Mental Health First Aid, fatigue management and ongoing peer support. Not just training for one day, but tools and check-ins that help crews look out for themselves and each other across the swing.

I’m Tammy Howell, registered nurse, mental health and resilience trainer and founder of Core Health Consulting. I help Australian businesses in mining, construction and trades support safe, compliant and productive teams at work.

I've asked this question in front of a lot of crews.

"Would you know if one of your people was struggling?"

They genuinely think they would. They've worked next to the same people for years. They know who takes their coffee black and whose wife just had a baby.

Then I ask what it actually looks like when someone's not coping, and the room goes quiet.

That's the gap. Not a lack of caring, just nobody ever taught them what to look for or what to say next.

Mental Health First Aid closes that gap. It's practical, and it's built for people who'd rather be back on the tools than sitting in a workshop.

Went for a nice, calm walk. Came back feeling refreshed… until I realised my car keys were gone!

So I did what anyone would and panic-walked the entire route backwards. Very committed, inspecting every possible spot - with zero results.

Meanwhile, my friend casually walks back to her car and goes, “Is that yours?”

There it was. Sitting under the car next to mine. Fully visible and completely unreachable.

Couldn’t move forward. Couldn’t go anywhere. Had to stop and actually think.

How’s that for a lesson on resilience? As a certified Resilience First Aid trainer, I was putting my own practice to use that day.

I’ll tell you how I got out of this situation, but I want to know your guesses first!

The biggest myth about wellbeing at work? One course covers the whole job.

Resilience First Aid and Mental Health First Aid are not the same training.

Resilience First Aid is about noticing when fatigue, pressure and poor support are starting to wear people down. It gives crews practical ways to check in, speak up and support each other before frustration, mistakes or shortcuts become normal.

Mental Health First Aid is for when someone is already struggling. It helps people spot warning signs, have a direct conversation and connect a worker with the right help.

Both matter on site.

Mental Health First Aid training helps your crew.

It gives workers practical skills to spot warning signs, start a conversation and connect someone with support. It also strengthens how your business manages psychosocial risks and supports WHS compliance.

“Mum, are the Matildas bigger than State of Origin?” Fair question from the back seat.

Sitting side by side in Sydney, caught up in the noise, the colour, the excitement of the Matildas and all the little comments kids make during a big game. It reminded me that real energy is often built away from work, then carried back into it.

Many people know me through training rooms, workshops and workplace conversations. They see me helping leaders manage fatigue, mental health, resilience and psychosocial risk. They see the professional version of me.

I’m also a mum. And like many working parents, I know what it feels like to carry responsibility for teams and clients in one hand while trying to make space for family time with the other.

Nights like this remind me why health matters. Why connection matters. Why people need genuine time away from pressure.

We all perform better when life includes moments that bring joy, laughter and perspective. We think clearer. We have more patience. We show up better for the people around us.

That applies at home and at work.

A headache. No sleep. Short temper. More drinks after work.

On their own, they’re easy to dismiss. Together, they can tell you someone is not coping as well as they usually do.

As a former ICU nurse, I’ve seen what can happen when people wait too long.

My experience has shaped the way I see workplace health. Not because every rough week is a crisis, but because people should not have to reach breaking point to access support.

Good mental health training gives people the confidence to spot changes, start a respectful conversation and know when professional support is needed.

Want to know something weird about good teams? You don’t really see how good they are until something goes wrong.

Because strong teams aren’t just capable. They’re consistent under pressure because they’ve built the skills to handle it properly. They regulate emotion, communicate clearly and solve problems before they escalate into bigger issues.

Resilience First Aid is a 2-day, evidence-based certification that teaches those skills in a structured way.

It focuses on prevention, giving your team practical tools they can use on site to recognise pressure early and respond effectively.

Is your team resilient?
