Cheeky Google Update 🚨
Those slippery people at Google quietly changed the review rules in 2026, and a lot of businesses are probably losing reviews without even realising why.
A few things that are now a no-go:
* asking for a review while the customer is still on site using your device
* having a shared iPad, tablet or kiosk set up at your shop or office for reviews
* offering discounts, freebies, gift cards or giveaway entries for a review
* pushing staff to hit review quotas
* telling customers to mention a specific staff member in the review
What’s still totally fine:
* handing over your NFC card or QR code card and letting the customer tap it on their own phone
* having a QR code sticker on your van or ute
* leaving a review card behind after the job
* sending a follow-up text or email once the work’s done
Pretty simple really - it needs to be their device, their choice, no pressure.
So if you’re a tradie handing over your NFC card at the end of a job and the customer taps it on their own phone, you’re doing it right.
If your reviews have dropped off a bit lately and you haven’t known why, this could be worth a look 👇
