Early morning filming on the NSW mid-coast- video being produced on reducing nitrous oxide losses on dairy farms to improve profitable use of nitrogen. The Final Open Day of the Northern Rivers Resource Efficiency Focus Farm was held yesterday, Thursday 27th October. The two year project has drawn high appraise from farmers, service providers and investors of the Northern Rivers dairy industry. The Optimised Dairy Irrigation Farm at Tamworth has had a new power meter installed after it was ascertained the existing meter responsible for the entire irrigation system had been reading peak & off-peak in reverse! Over the past eleven years this has certainly cost Rex. By installing this new time-of-use meter it is estimated he will reduce his energy bills by 25%. Mid Coast Adaptable Farming Systems Project commences the on farm Adaptable Business Support Group (ABSG) meetings with Day 1 underway. The Group members are hearing from Pat & Louise on the farm physical characteristics, business assets and current management systems. An increased understanding of these aspects will assist the members to contribute to the Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats analysis which will focus upon the business goals for the project. This project is funded by the Australian Government's National Landcare Programme through Hunter LLS and is project managed by ICD Project Services.

Unilever has once again accredited the Australian dairy industry as a "Sustainable Supplier" of raw products until December 2017. This is a great initiative of the industry under the guidance of Dairy Australia. Unilever encompasses food and drinks brands such as Continental, Flora and Streets amongst many personal and home care brands. The business' "Sustainable Living Plan" is the blueprint for the company to grow whilst "decoupling" it's environmental footprint from growth and increasing their positive social impact. Dairy Australia has launched it's web page for the Smarter Irrigation for Profit Project. The dairy industry is involved in both research and demonstration across the country in partnership with a number of research organisations and universities.
