We have been pretty fortunate with our introduction back into cows at Jusak. Up until last night calving had been going along nicely. Yesterday Sage showed all the signs that she was ready to calf and early evening had a hoof showing. That’s where things halted. After giving nature some more time to take its course we needed to intervene. Sage’s calf was back to front - thankfully not bum first breech though. With a fair bit of assistance we managed to deliver her calf, miraculously alive. To say we were relieved this morning to see Mum and Baby up and about doing well is a bit of an understatement.

After a couple of frosty mornings and while we wait for a bit of rain we stopped by at the Bank Manager’s Hour to check in with this years sale rams. They look pretty content in their vetch paddock - probably could only better if we had a drink and some picky bits to enjoy with them!

Everyone loves an afternoon walk out to see the cows. This afternoon we were on video chat with the Travelling Jusak so she could check in with her calves. Frank the cattle dog was keen to come for a walk too, until the cattle told him he wasn’t welcome. Insert the heeler component of his name which is where he tried to hide (at my heels)! Lucky he got the message to give the girls some space.

Lambing is ticking along nicely, there should be a good number ready for marking when the boys are home for mid term break.
