We've got some coming your way this Vintage!!

Saperavi (Georgian) is an ancient, black-skinned grape variety native to the country of Georgia, specifically the Kakheti region. The name literally translates to "dye" or "paint," referring to its intense pigmentation.

Key Characteristics:

Teinturier Grape: Unlike most red grapes which have clear juice, Saperavi is a rare teinturier variety, meaning it has red pulp as well as red skins. This produces exceptionally dark, opaque wines.

Flavor Profile: These wines are typically full-bodied and powerful with high acidity and firm tannins. Common tasting notes include blackberry, plum, ripe cherries, spice, to***co, and leather.

Versatility: It is used to produce a wide range of wine styles, including dry red, semi-sweet, sweet, and even rosé or fortified wines.

Production Methods: Saperavi is famously aged in traditional Georgian clay vessels called Qvevri buried underground, though it is also commonly aged in stainless steel or oak barrels.

Hardiness: The vine is notably robust, capable of withstanding extremely cold weather and growing at high altitudes.While its heart remains in Georgia, Saperavi is also grown in Moldova, Ukraine, Bulgaria, the United States (Finger Lakes), and Australia.
