It was a pleasure to do a presentation to the Noosa Business Group today on the benefits of value adding in business.

In today's competitive marketplace, it's easy to focus on price, but people can almost always find a cheaper option. What they don't always find is a business that makes them feel appreciated.

During my presentation, I spoke about how simple, cost-effective gestures can help build stronger client relationships, increase loyalty, and create memorable experiences. Research consistently shows that adding value is often more effective than discounting, because it creates goodwill without reducing your profit margins.

As a practical demonstration, each member received a free personalised notepad featuring their profession. It was a fun way to illustrate how a small, thoughtful gift can leave a lasting impression.

We also discussed other value adding ideas, including branded jelly bean packs, promotional products, personalised gifts, and simple ways businesses can show appreciation to their clients.

A big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion. I hope it inspired a few new ideas that can help businesses strengthen relationships and stand out from their competition.

Remember, people may forget what you charged them, but they'll often remember how you made them feel.

What a classic! Released in 1979, and it's still timeless. An incredible album to listen to from start to finish.
“Comfortably Numb” sounds amazing on vinyl, especially when it’s turned up loud,
and it's considered to have the greatest guitar solo in history. Hard to disagree.

When designing your business card in programs like Canva, it's always best to print it out to get a true guide to the size. We sometimes forget we're looking at it really large on a monitor, but that's not reality.

Take a deep breath when someone argues with your price. There’s a less stressful way!

Price objections are something every business owner faces, but often it’s not really about the price itself. It can come down to timing, cash flow, uncertainty, or simply not understanding the value behind the service or product being offered.

At Simply Print, we’ve found the best approach is to slow the conversation down and genuinely listen before jumping in to defend the price. When customers feel heard and understood, they become far more comfortable discussing their concerns openly.

We like to acknowledge what the customer is saying and ask thoughtful questions that help them explore the outcomes of moving forward versus doing nothing. This creates a respectful conversation rather than a sales pitch, and it allows the customer to come to their own logical conclusion without feeling pressured.

Many businesses make the mistake of immediately discounting their price to secure the job. While that may occasionally work in the short term, constantly competing on price can damage perceived value and attract customers who only shop around for the cheapest option.

The key is to sell the value, not the price.

There will always be someone cheaper, but customers genuinely remember great service, reliability, quality, experience, and helpful advice. That’s why it’s important to position yourself as the expert and communicate the real benefits behind what you offer.

At Simply Print, we believe people are far more likely to support a business they trust and feel comfortable dealing with. A genuine conversation and a helpful attitude can often achieve far more than simply lowering your price.
