Motton Terraces sits tucked into a beautiful bush setting in Tasmania’s North West area commonly referred to as the ‘Cradle Coast’. We (Jenny and Flemming) do absolutely everything themselves other than on harvest day (vintage) when friends come in for a day of picking, pulverising, pressing and partying. Actually ‘pulverising’ is really ‘crushing’ but it makes a better alliteration – don’t you th
ink? Everything is very hands on. Every vine was hand planted, each trellis post thumped in by hand, each vine hand pruned, shoot positioned and leaf plucked each year. We remove certain weeds by hand, as well as snails that have magically made their way here. Each bunch is hand picked by our great team of pickers - and where would we be without them! Come picking day and those pickers also help out in the winery, crushing the grapes, pressing them and transferring the juice to the fermentation tanks. The vineyard is covered by nets to keep out birds and marauding possums and wallabies – it’s amazing how much wildlife goes un-noticed until you plant something you don’t want eaten! The soil & climate determines what the grapes (and ultimately the wine) will be like. Our wines reflect this – typical cool climate characteristic of enhanced delicate flavours and a firm acidity. From this base, and personal preference, we structure our wines to be a ‘daringly different drop’. We currently have the following wines for sale:
