Weโ€™re truly honoured to be featured in โ€™s โ€œCoffee for the Cultureโ€ story.

Phin Coffee started from a deep personal passion. After years of working as a barista, cafรฉ manager, and account manager for different brands in Sydney, I really wanted to share the true soul of the Vietnamese coffee I grew up with.

It started small and slow. For two years I was knocking on doors every single day, visiting Vietnamese cafรฉs and banh mi shops all over Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, introducing our Australian-made Vietnamese beans and the traditional phin brewing method โ€” that beautiful slow drip ritual using a small metal filter that turns every cup into a mindful moment.

I also travelled the length of Vietnam, from north to south, personally sourcing the very best beans straight from the producers. This direct trade approach lets us roast our authentic Vietnamese beans with real care right here in Sydney.

I was driven by the desire to challenge the unfair perception that Vietnamese Robusta is somehow lesser, and to honour the simple, time-honoured phin ritual thatโ€™s always been at the heart of our culture.

At its core, this is about more than just beans. Back home the traditional way is slowly fading, so through Phin Coffee we want to keep those stories and traditions alive โ€” and warmly invite every Australian, whether you have Vietnamese roots or not, to experience the real thing and maybe even weave a little of this beautiful ritual into Australiaโ€™s own coffee culture.

Banh Mi began with the arrival of the French in Vietnam, who brought the crusty baguette with them. Local communities then transformed it into something uniquely their own. What started simply with butter or pรขtรฉ evolved over time into the Banh Mi we know today: a crispy baguette filled with vibrant herbs, pickled vegetables, and layers of bold flavour.
