Yes. You are taking it too personally. Probably.

Ever walked out of a meeting replaying every word in your head?

That awkward comment. The eye roll. The tapping on their phone. The moment you felt dismissed or misunderstood?

I used to stew on those moments for days, losing sleep, convinced the other person was rude or had it in for me. Of course, most of the time they didn’t. I was just trapped in my own story about what happened.

Then, about ten years ago, I found the Experience Cube — a simple self-reflection technique that helps you unpack tough interactions, separate facts from assumptions, and move on with a clearer head.

Since then, it has become one of my favourite techniques I share with my coaching clients. I've been meaning for a long time to write an article about my own experiences and the learnings I have obtained working with my clients about this technique.

If you ever catch yourself overthinking and overanalysing a difficult conversation, this one’s for you 👇

Hi friends, this is a work-related post and I'm hoping some of my friends might be able to help me.

Since 2020, I've been working for a small but global consulting firm that specialises in working with technical subject matter experts—software developers, lawyers, scientists, finance wizards, engineers, clinicians, etc.

I'm running a global, short 14-question, multiple-choice survey to get some insights from people who work in fields requiring significant knowledge and expertise. We are seeking their thoughts about their career, development,
and the support they receive from their organisations.

I'm hoping some of you might be willing to share this survey with people in your network you think are experts in their field of work.

Every survey completion triggers a A$5 donation to the Fred Hollows Foundation, an international organisation working towards eliminating avoidable blindness in developing countries.

Survey respondents will also receive:
1. Exclusive access to the full survey report.
2. Be invited to a briefing with the research authors.
3. Be entered to win a coaching package (worth A$2100).

🙏 THANK YOU!
I'd be grateful if you could forward this to any of your friends or colleagues you think might be interested. Or complete the survey yourself.

HR Daily has written an article about my new research whitepaper - ORGANISATIONAL EXPERTSHIP - how high-performing organisations are driving new levels of advantage through their technical teams.

Thanks to Alistair Gordon and Cheryl Chow for the editing and Jodi O'Connor at Ronnoco for her design work. Also thank you to Vera Devai and India Bednall at Espresso Communications for making the connections.

If you are a subscriber to HR Daily, I'd love to know what you think of the article. We will be launching the research whitepaper from Expertunity next week.

We are looking forward to hearing about the ideas and outcomes from this week's Australian Jobs and Skills Summit.

Our reliance on specialist skills increases with every passing year. Yet many organisations unintentionally put obstacles in the way of their internal experts achieving their full potential. If specialist skills are becoming scarce and hard to find, then organisations must find ways to maximise the potential of the resources they have while also competing to attract expert talent.

Just over a year ago before the Summit, Expertunity's (https://expertunity.global/) Alistar Gordon wrote an article for First5000 on this very topic - retaining your in-demand expert talent.

Technical Lead - It's not just about "tech".

What does this role mean? And what does it take to be a Tech Lead?

After coaching and training more than 2000 experts at Expertunity, we've learned there is not a single definition.

1. A technical leader may describe a thought leader.
2. A technical leader may describe a director of technical standards.
3. A technical leader might be a manager of a group of technical experts.

In this article in our Master Expert Blog, Alistair Gordon shares his experience about each of these roles and some advice on how to excel in each.

Are you a fitness app AND a social media user? What do you think of this research led by the University of Sydney

Our mobile apps may have been a double-edged sword during the pandemic by improving our physical health but harming our mental wellbeing.

At Expertunity, we are using social media to help put the spotlight on the latest Australian science news and research during National Science Week.

Does that make this post ironic?

The age of the expert has arrived.

9 in 10 Australians trust science and scientists
4 in 5 Australians want to hear more from scientists about their work
3 in 5 Australians believe undervaluing science would lead to more public health crises and more than half of us believe that would lead to greater division in society

At Expertunity, we know we aren't the only ones who love experts. That's why we are celebrating National Science Week by sharing exciting news about science and experts in Australia.

Today we are sharing news about how researchers at the University of Sydney have developed a free tool for clinicians to help detect early-onset dementia.
