𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 | 𝗙𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀

Inflation may have eased in June, but the underlying pressures facing Australian businesses remain.

The latest CPI figures show headline inflation easing to 3.8% annually, largely driven by a temporary fall in fuel prices.

However, cost pressures remain widespread across the economy, with inflation accelerating in categories including food, housing, household goods and services and recreation.

Australian Industry Group Chief Executive Innes Willox said the recent fuel price relief should not distract from the broader challenges facing businesses and households.

"Domestic inflation remains too high and broad-based and is moving in the wrong direction," he said.

With fuel prices already rising again and energy costs continuing to place pressure on businesses, inflation remains a key concern for employers navigating a challenging operating environment.

Australian Industry Group continues to advocate for policies that strengthen economic resilience, improve productivity and help ease inflationary pressures across the economy.

HR executives in and had the opportunity to come together this week to explore complex challenges shaping today’s workforce.

In Parramatta, Australian Industry Group's Daniel Murray led a discussion on — a topic of high interest among our members.

Meanwhile, in Brisbane, Lara Radik led a panel conversation with Natalie Stewart, of Protech Group, and HR Director D'Neale Prosser on how organisations can proactively manage alcohol and other drug risks.

Ms Prosser said: "Connecting with others on a similar journey and openly sharing successes, challenges and insights created a welcoming environment where everyone could learn and grow together.

"I left feeling inspired, encouraged and excited about the possibilities ahead on the topic of fitness for work and also as a HR community here in Brisbane.

"The networking opportunities and sharing of experiences were invaluable."

In a rapidly evolving landscape, these quarterly events offer members a rare opportunity to step back from day-to-day demands and engage in informal conversation with peers who understand the pressures and opportunities of senior HR leadership.

Further announced today on Australian businesses exporting to the US are disappointing and meritless.

The measures are inconsistent with the spirit of the Australia-US Free Trade Agreement, Australian Industry Group Chief Executive Innes Willox said.

The tariffs create additional uncertainty for and risk increasing costs for businesses already navigating complex and supply chain challenges.

We continue to support efforts to overturn the tariffs and call for greater international coordination on forced labour and modern slavery requirements to avoid unnecessary compliance burdens on business.

“Within the space of just a few years, have become far more than a niche technical specialty,” Caroline Smith, webinar host and Executive Director of our 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗖𝗘𝗧), said.

Australian Industry Group welcomes the Government’s decision to coordinate Australia’s AI policy approach through the Prime Minister’s department, recognising the economy-wide opportunities and challenges the technology presents.

is already transforming the way businesses operate, innovate and improve productivity, and the pace of change is only accelerating.

The priority now is to provide businesses, investors and communities with greater certainty about Australia’s approach to AI adoption, regulation and investment, our Chief Executive, Innes Willox, says.

We're calling for:

▪️a clear and coordinated national approach to AI policy
▪️strong support for business innovation and productivity growth
▪️greater collaboration between industry and research institutions ▪️investment in the skills needed for the future workforce and
▪️policy certainty to attract AI and data centre investment to Australia
