Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the recent devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Pray alongside us.

Prayers:
- Protect the rescue workers, keeping them alert and patient.
- For those still missing, protect them from the elements, hazards and other threats. Give them hope where it seems impossible.
- Pray for the Christians who live in the areas. Show them how to aid and show your love in this terrible time.
- Help us trust you are still present, even in moments like this.
- Draw near to those who are grieving, so that they can find comfort in you, and, at the proper time, to see the redemptive things you weave from even the worst circumstances.

Psalm 23:4-6:
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Missions Interlink is grateful for the 20 prayer meetings we were able to host in 2022 for our member agencies. Prayer warriors were able to join on the ground workers and support them through their prayers and words of encouragement. From cold Siberia to steaming Laos, and from the Northern territories to North Africa, we heard stories of God at work.

Prayer for the Nations is an opportunity for the needs of your workers to be heard and for their ministry to be prayed for. These Zoom prayer meetings occur the 2nd and 4th Monday evenings of February through November from 8:30-9:30pm (Melb/Syd). The prayer meeting is hosted by Missions Interlink and a group of 4 volunteers assures the technical assistance so that the worker, whether on location or in Australia, can explain the needs and prayer points.

Do you have a missionary who could share with us about their work so that we could pray for them? Alternatively, do you have a home staff member who could share about your organisation's overall work and we will pray? If you nominate someone, we will then liaise with them to suggest the format for the prayer hour. Consider who of your workers could benefit from this concert of prayer and contact Prayer for the Nations for a date in 2023.

How do we best handle a crisis?

In the local church? In the mission agency or college? On the field? In our personal lives? Can we prevent a potential crisis?

UK author and member-care specialist, Marion Knell, will lead this workshop and help us explore this very timely topic.

We will look at the characteristics and phases of a crisis and the impact it has on personnel. In the missions and local church context we will explore what the concept of Duty of Care means and to whom we owe a duty of care. We will then look at the practical outworking of this through case studies.

The Missionary Enrichment Retreat at beautiful Tahlee on Port Stephens is a great opportunity for cross-cultural workers currently in Australia to be refreshed and renewed. Earlybird price ends on 7 October. Don't miss out!

Mission service is unique in the stresses and blessings it brings whatever your role, wherever in the world you’ve been. M.E.R.s are designed for the missionary, giving an opportunity to reflect on the experience, evaluate how you’ve coped, and equip yourself for the future in a safe place with people who truly understand.

Skilled facilitators with both professional qualifications and missionary experience gently guide the process, creating a safe place to share the good and the bad, to unburden and prepare for the future.

Plenty of time and opportunity is given for spending time with the Lord, alone and corporately, for reflection, worship and growth. M.E.R.s provide a meeting place in which to learn from and share with fellow travellers who understand the issues you face in your field of service.

As this is an intensely personal and reflective time, it will be child-free. We recommend that parents arrange to leave children with relatives and friends.

Who could you encourage to go? Find this event on our website (link in bio)

Today we have an exceptional Blog, "How Global Mission Helps the Local Church", written by Graeme Dunkley.

The last few years have been very hard on local churches. Many have struggled to adapt and then readapt to changing circumstances. Sometimes these changes have occurred in the context of internal conflict over COVID responses, which have further drained energy and damaged unity. In one denomination, requests for help from congregations are already 50% higher than last year – and we’re only halfway through the year.

In this environment, it’s easy to see how global mission could take a back seat. Who has the head space to think about people far away, when there are so many things to sort out for this coming Sunday?

Against this backdrop, Dunkley provides a reminder of ways global mission helps local churches.
