**SUNSHINE COAST TINY HOMES EXPO- DATES CHANGED**

Due to recent torrential rainfall, it has been established that the grounds will not have sufficient time to dry out to allow exhibitor bump-in next weekend as planned.

Organisers have made the extremely difficult decision to change the dates, and will now proceed across the weekend of July 10-12.

We know this decision wasn't made lightly, and in fact this is the first time in almost 30 expo events that dates have been changed due to weather and site conditions.

The great news for exhibitors is that it's common for attendee numbers to swell after a date reschedule, as those who previously were unable to attend often find they now can.

All exhibitors and ticket holders have been emailed by the organiser.

If you're already purchased tickets, you don't need to do anything- these will automatically move across to the new date.

We'll see you all there!

ℹ Interim Industry Market Update: A Tale of Two Mindsets?

Following attendance at both the Melbourne and Sydney Tiny Homes Expos this year, one emerging trend has become apparent.

While economic uncertainty continues to dominate headlines across Australia, consumers appear to be responding to those conditions differently depending on location.

At the Victorian expo earlier this year, conversations on the ground suggested many prospective buyers were viewing current economic conditions as a reason to delay purchasing decisions. Rising living costs, ongoing global uncertainty, taxation concerns and broader economic pressures appeared to be contributing to a more cautious outlook.

By contrast, the sentiment at last weekend's expo in Sydney was noticeably different.

Attendance was on par with previous years and conversations throughout the weekend suggested many attendees were viewing those same economic pressures through a different lens. Rather than seeing current conditions as a reason to postpone purchasing, many were exploring Tiny Houses precisely because traditional housing pathways are becoming increasingly challenging.

In other words, the same market forces appear to be producing two very different responses.

These observations provide a fascinating snapshot of current consumer sentiment within the Tiny House sector.

The next data point will come from the Sunshine Coast Expo later this month, which may provide further insight into whether these differences are regional, or indicative of broader shifts in consumer thinking.

One thing remains clear: Australians continue to actively explore Tiny Houses as part of the housing conversation. The question is no longer whether people are interested. The more interesting question may be how they interpret the economic environment around them, and whether they see it as a reason to wait or a reason to act.

Full market report and action plan will be available to accredited THIA members later this month.

Our inaugural Member of the Week: WHEELIE ROOMS!

✨ Australia's most affordable Tiny Houses, starting from just $20,999!

In 2020, long time Tiny House fans Brittany and Sam saw a gap in the market for truly affordable, entry level Tiny Houses. Almost two years of research later, and Wheelie Rooms opened their first factory in Brisbane in June 2022.

These durable homes are made right here in Australia with steel framing and insulated panels, with sizes ranging from 4m to 8m, and uses from office pods to spare bedrooms to full-time living solutions.
You can even start with one pod and add more later, which is a fantastic, budget-friendly way to get out of the rent cycle and stay independent.

Yes, there are options for off grid solar, composting toilets, and even a slide-out deck! Wheelie Rooms are a perfect example that a lower budget doesn't mean lower quality of life.

Given the state of the economy, more people than ever are looking for economical ways to get out of the rent and mortgage cycle- and buyers agree, because around 450 Wheelie Rooms have now been sold!
This led to the recent opening of a second manufacturing facility in Melbourne, with an expanded team of 27.

They are also two time FINALISTS in our Best Budget Build Award category in 2023 & 2025 🏅

It's wonderful to see such savvy young business owners addressing the obvious need for affordable housing- which Sam and Brittany are so passionate about that they live in a Tiny House of their own!

Meet them in person at next week's Tiny Homes Expo in Sydney.

🔎 Smart Tiny Home buyers do their research before committing to a purchase.

But your research should involve more than just looking through one builder's homes.

You need to know what you're signing up for across the topics that matter: legislation, site setup, insurance, solar power, toilet options, parking options...

It can feel overwhelming to research all those things independently via online channels- and if you do wade through it all- who do you trust? How do you know the information you're getting is accurate and non-biased?

Nothing beats talking to industry experts in person at a Tiny Homes Expo!

Meet the best builders in the country, see their workmanship, and get trusted information right from the horses' mouth- in many cases from those who actually live in Tiny Houses themselves.

>>> Swipe to view all upcoming expos with location and dates.

The next one is in Sydney NEXT WEEKEND May 29-31, with many THIA accredited builders and businesses bringing their A-game!

For more info and to get your tickets, check out their website www.tinyhomesexpo.com.au

🛑 And remember- always ask any potential builder or service provider if they're THIA accredited.
It's your peace of mind that they meet industry benchmarks, and have a good reputation within the industry.

📍THE STATE OF VICTORIA

A few years ago, we would have told you that Victoria was lagging far behind its east coast cousins where the industry was concerned.

We could count on one hand the number of reputable Tiny House build companies operating, and the number of people choosing to take up Tiny House life was tiny in comparison with Queensland (arguably the hub of the industry).

However it's clear after attending the recent Tiny Homes Expo in Mornington that our Vic industry has come a long way.

Wheelie Rooms brought a whole village of affordable Tiny Homes from their new Vic base, luxury Airbnb builders Iconic Tiny Homes wowed with their open-sky shower, and the Feng shui good vibes in ’ best build yet were felt by all who walked through it over the weekend.

Our modular companies really stepped it up also, with a beautiful accessible options by Mods On The Move and a huge two bedroom show home by Avon Valley Transportables .

Due to spiralling living costs, there's strong demand for Tiny Homes across Victoria right now, so it's a great time to make your move.

🛑 REMEMBER: Our industry does not yet have construction regulations, and with all the newcomers to the industry it's never been more important to do your due diligence before handing over any money to a build company.

ℹ For your protection, we will only ever feature or recommend THIA-accredited businesses on our social media or website.

Vale Paul Pritchett
1979-2026

Today our industry lost an incredible ally.

Paul had a lifelong interest in alternative housing and green technologies, so when he was introduced to the Tiny House industry in 2021, he immediately jumped at the chance to get involved.

After learning of the challenges of securing finance for Tiny Houses, Paul launched Great Escape Finance for the specific purpose of assisting the Tiny House sector to secure buyer finance.

Paul spent the following years banging down the doors of every bank, credit union and finance company, spending long days away from his own family, often missing important events and birthdays with the goal of allowing others to house themselves in Tiny Houses.

His tenacity saw him strike industry-changing deals not only in the finance space, but also the closely linked insurance space.

Many of you have likely seen or met Paul at one of the Tiny Homes Expos, during the two years between 2022-24 when he travelled the country emceeing the speaker hall at over a dozen expos. He also emceed the inaugural Tiny House Industry Awards in 2023.

His dark humour elicited many a chuckle from the audience, and his ability to pull absolute chaos together into something worth listening to was unmatched.

In 2024, Paul was also appointed to the role of treasurer with the Australian Tiny House Association, always looking for new ways to contribute to this industry.

The role was short-lived as his health deteriorated and he received the diagnosis of Glioblastoma Multiforme IDH wild type methelated in June 2024, a cancer so uncommon his doctors knew very little about it.

During his short but intense battle with the disease, Paul became incredibly frustrated with the lack of available information and visibility for this and other less common types of cancer.

Never one to wallow, Paul founded the Cancer 24 Foundation, dedicated to providing other cancer sufferers with readily available information and support relevant to their own cancer.

While only in the very early stages of its inception, we will assist wherever we can to grow Paul’s vision into a legacy that outlives us all.

On a personal note, it’s been an honour and privilege to be Paul’s friend for over 15 years. He was one of the last true gentlemen, and an incredibly supportive and knowledgeable mentor to both myself and many business owners working in the Tiny House space.

Paul leaves behind his three great loves- wife Stacey, and young daughters Gemma and Ashlyn.

The world is a little dimmer without his infectious positivity and passion.

We will share end of life celebration details when available.

🚨BREAKING NEWS 🚨

Australia’s first privately owned Tiny House village has been granted planning approval!!!

Forward-thinking Capel shire in WA have approved a 40-site development of permanent Tiny Homes on Wheels on a privately owned property in Boyanup, 180kms south of Perth.

The process was far from straightforward, and is far from over- but land owners Katie and Lee Pritchard never wavered in their commitment to bringing this truly affordable housing option to the ravaged south west corner of the state- despite the proposal receiving 30 public objections, and being subject to “an astonishing number of conditions”.

Believed to be the first true permanent village of its kind in Australia, the news is an incredibly exciting step forward in the journey to widespread legal acceptance of full-time Tiny Home living.

This is a HUGE win not just for this site or the state of WA, but for our entire industry and the Tiny House community.

Massive shout-out to Lee and Katie for having the tenacity to work with the government to push this initiative through.

We’ll keep you posted with updates!

It’s hard to believe we’re already in 2026.
It feels as though we say “where did the year go?” every single year, but 2025 felt different, and really did disappear at lightning speed!

We achieved a great deal during 2025. Some of the highlights:

✅ Published our first ever, comprehensive industry report. A fantastic resource covering the growth in awareness around Tiny Houses in Australia, and the switch from fledgling movement to booming industry.
✅ Delivered our second biennial Tiny House Industry Awards. With strengthened transparency around assessment criteria, process and governance, and a diverse international judging panel, we are proud of the integrity of the program and confident those recognised reflected the strongest submissions in each category, while also acknowledging that differing perspectives are a natural part of any awards program.
✅ Provided one on one business and marketing mentoring for around 80% of our members.
✅ Introduced legislation modules in our Member Toolbox with in-depth analysis of the rules in NSW, WA, ACT and Vic.

This year, we’re building on those solid foundations by:

⭐ Ensuring 100% of our members receive 1on1 mentoring and support
⭐ Introducing weekly and monthly training sessions to address knowledge gaps in the areas our members tell us you need support
⭐ Bringing in expert coaches for specialised training sessions
⭐ Introducing weekly member promotion across our online network, to ensure all members have the opportunity to get in front of our vast audience
⭐ Partnering with other organisations to continue to advocate for broader inclusion of Tiny Houses within legislation
⭐ Stepping up our data collection to create an accurate picture of the economic impact of our industry, to strengthen our voice at government level

We're making 2026 our best year yet.
If your business is not already THIA accredited, you're missing out on all this and more!
