⚠️ EXTREME HEAT WARNING 🌡️☀️
As temperatures are set to rise significantly over the weekend and into next week, we would like to remind our clients of the serious risks that hot weather poses to pets and provide some helpful tips to keep them safe during this period of extreme heat. 🐾
💦 Keep pets cool and hydrated
Always provide plenty of fresh, cool water — more than one bowl if possible.
Ensure they have constant access to shade with good airflow — outdoors or indoors with fans/aircon.
🕒 Avoid heat exposure
Walk and exercise your pet either early in the morning or late in the evening when temperatures are coolest, DO NOT exercise them in the middle part of the day. Hot pavement, sand or asphalt can burn paw pads — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for theirs!!!!
❌ Never leave pets in cars
Even with windows open or parked in shade, cars can become a deadly oven in minutes.
🏠 Bring pets inside
If the indoor environment is cooler, bring them in. Good ventilation lets them pant effectively — crucial for cooling.
🩹 Outdoor pets & small animals
Rabbits, guinea pigs, birds and other small pets are especially vulnerable — move them to cool, shaded, well-ventilated areas with water.
It’s important to remember that brachycephalic breeds (such as French Bulldogs, Pugs, English Bulldogs, Boxers etc.) are at a higher risk of heat stress due to their facial structure. These pets require extra special care during hot weather. We recommend keeping them indoors in the air conditioning and limiting exercise, as they have difficulty regulating their body temperature and cooling themselves effectively.
Just remember, if it’s too hot for you — it’s too hot for your pet. Be proactive to keep them hydrated, shaded and cool during this period and if you notice any signs of heat stress, contact your vet immediately 🐶🐱
