There’s a hint of spring in the air, but out in the vineyard, we’re still firmly in winter mode. ✂️🍇

Pruning is well underway at Colmar Estate, with each vine cut back by hand in preparation for the growing season ahead.

It’s quiet, methodical work, but an important part of setting the vineyard up for another vintage. Before long, these bare rows will be green again. 🌱

The final bottles of something very special. 💛

Our 2023 Block 5 Riesling is almost gone.

Born from the cool, late 2023 vintage and hand-picked from Block 5, this beautiful Riesling went on to receive 96 points from The Real Review, plus the Trophy at the Orange Wine Show.

Every Colmar wine is a snapshot of its vintage, shaped by that particular season, harvest and fruit. We’ll make another Block 5 Riesling, but we’ll never make the 2023 again.

Available at our Cellar Door and online, while stocks last.

We’re incredibly proud to share that Colmar Estate has once again been awarded 5 Red Stars in the Halliday Wine Companion.

Halliday describes a 5 Red Star winery as an “Outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity” and for our small, family-owned vineyard in Orange, it’s an achievement we’re immensely proud of.

And helping us retain those five red stars are two very special wines, both awarded 95 points in the 2027 Companion:

🥂 2015 Méthode Traditionelle LD | 95 points
An extraordinary 9.5 years on lees has delivered remarkable depth and composure, with yellow citrus, buttered toast and brûlée characters carried by a fine, persistent mousse.

🍇 2024 Reserve Chardonnay | 95 points
Our best-of-barrel selection is intensely juicy and beautifully composed, with white peach, lemon cream and subtle spice. In Halliday’s words, “a wine to slow down for.”

A wonderful recognition of our vineyard, our wines and the years of work behind every bottle.

On the blog today, Bill explores a question that sparks plenty of debate in the wine world: what’s the point of points?

Inspired by comments from English wine writer Andrew Jefford, Bill reflects on wine scores, expert opinions, and whether a great wine experience can ever really be reduced to a number.

After all, is a memorable bottle defined by the points on a scorecard, or by the people, place and moment in which it’s enjoyed?

Something interesting has been happening at the cellar door lately... More and more visitors have been asking if we have a Gewurztraminer.

So, we've listened.

We're delighted to welcome back two favourites: our 2022 Gewurztraminer and the 2024 La Dame.

While they both showcase this wonderfully aromatic variety, they couldn't be more different. The Gewurztraminer is bright, perfumed and unmistakably itself, while La Dame weaves Gewurztraminer together with Pinot Gris and Riesling into a beautifully balanced field blend.

Whether you're already a Gewurztraminer fan or simply curious to see what all the fuss is about, we'd love to pour you a glass.

Available now at our cellar door and online.

Today we're raising a glass to something rather special.

Our Block 1 vineyard has officially reached 35 years of age, earning its place as an Old Vine under the internationally recognised definition.

These were the very first vines planted at Colmar Estate, and after three and a half decades they've become an important part of our story. Older vines naturally produce lower yields, but often with greater concentration, balance and complexity in the fruit.

It's a milestone we're incredibly proud of, and one that reminds us that great vineyards only become more interesting with time.

Here's to the next chapter.

Gewurztraminer is one of those grape varieties that rarely sits quietly in the background.

Highly aromatic, wonderfully expressive and often a little misunderstood, it's a variety that rewards curiosity. From fragrant floral notes to exotic spice, it has a personality all of its own.

Our latest blog explores what makes Gewurztraminer so distinctive, why it thrives in Orange's cool climate, and why we're seeing more and more people discovering (or rediscovering) this fascinating variety.

Who says Shiraz has to be big and heavy? Let's celebrate Shiraz Day with something a little different.

If you prefer your reds a little brighter and more elegant, our 2022 Pinot Shiraz might just be your perfect winter pour. A unique 50/50 blend of cool climate Shiraz and Pinot Noir, it's bursting with red berries, ripe plum and gentle spice, finishing with subtle oak and fine tannins.
