Tool Battery Fire Safety in the Workplace 🔋💼

Power-tool lithium-ion packs can overheat or fail if damaged or charged incorrectly. Keep your team and site safe:

✅ Charge in a clear, ventilated area on non-combustible surfaces — never overnight or unattended
✅ Use manufacturer chargers only; avoid daisy-chained power boards
✅ Inspect packs for swelling, cracks, odour or excessive heat — remove from service if any signs appear
✅ Separate charging from storage; keep away from exits and heat sources
✅ Ensure appropriate extinguishers are accessible and staff are trained; call 000 for any battery incident

Need a workplace fire risk review or help with evacuation planning and detection coverage around charging areas? Fire Systems Queensland can help.

Warmer weather, storm season ahead—time to get your building ready.

✅ AS 1851 service dates: Confirm extinguishers, hose reels, sprinklers & fire doors are in date and defects closed out.

✅ EWIS & detection: Keep detectors/return-air clear; (no panel touch-ups by unlicensed personal).

✅ Evacuation readiness: Refresh wardens, toolbox a quick drill, and ensure diagrams are current (AS 3745 ≤ 5 years or after layout changes).

✅ Storm/bushfire housekeeping: Clear roof/gutters, secure rooftop plant, remove combustibles from egress paths.

✅ Works & hot-work permits: Use permits and a fire watch; log any impairments—technicians only on the FIP.

Book a spring compliance check with Fire Systems Queensland and head into storm season confident.

🚰🛠 FIRE WATER STORAGE TANKS

AS 2304 CHECKS THAT PREVENT “NO WATER” MOMENTS

If your sprinkler or hydrant performance depends on a tank, AS 2304 sets the rules for design, accessories and ongoing inspection.

Owner’s checklist:
✅ Annual internal/external inspection + accessory checks (inlet/outlet, anti-vortex, level gauges)
✅ Corrosion control and roof/liner condition documented
✅ Test evidence filed with your AS 1851 records & Occupier’s Statement

Plan maintenance before summer: Fire Systems Queensland inspects, reports and rectifies to keep storage capacity and flow on spec.

🛡️🧱 PROTECT THE PILLARS

PHYSICAL PROTECTION FOR PILLAR HYDRANTS 🚧

Knocked-down hydrants = no water when crews arrive. Install bollards/guarding where vehicle strike is possible.

QLD stance:
✅ Provide impact protection to prevent damage/unauthorised use
✅ Maintain visibility and operability around hydrants

As part of AS1851 Fire Systems Queensland audits hydrant barrier protection to ensure complaince.

💦📈 FEED HYDRANT PERFORMANCE

DO YOUR FEED HYDRANTS DELIVER WHEN IT COUNTS? 🔧

Where public mains are marginal or long, feed hydrants may be essential to achieve design flows.

What to verify:

✅ Flow/pressure at design points meets AS 2419.1 expectations
✅ Boosters located/marked for rapid appliance connection
✅ Test evidence kept with baseline data

Fire Systems Queensland conducts performance tests and rectification planning.

Plant rooms and electrical switchboards are often hidden away—but they’re high-risk fire zones. Failure to inspect or maintain these areas can lead to serious equipment damage, downtime, or worse.

📋 Fire Safety Essentials:

✔️ Ensure clear access—no storage or obstructions
✔️ Keep dust and flammable debris out of electrical cabinets
✔️ Maintain adequate ventilation
✔️ Install appropriate extinguishers (e.g., CO₂) nearby
✔️ Conduct regular thermal imaging to detect hotspots
✔️ Ensure all penetrations are correctly sealed by a certified contractor if required

Protect the heart of your operations. Fire Systems Queensland provides inspections and fire equipment servicing for plant rooms and switchboards across commercial sites.

Missed an annual fire inspection? You’re not just risking non-compliance—you could be voiding your insurance and exposing your business to major liability. 😬

Common issues we see:

❌ Expired extinguisher tags
❌ Outdated emergency plans
❌ Blocked exits or damaged signage
❌ Missed logbook entries

QLD legislation requires routine testing under AS1851—and many insurers are now checking documentation before approving claims.

Avoid costly surprises. Fire Systems Queensland helps you stay on top of compliance with proactive scheduling and full reporting.
