PMT Refinery was pleased to be invited to tour Great Divide Mining’s Challenger Gold Mine in Adelong during the recent community Open day, alongside local stakeholders and industry representatives.

Adelong is gaining real momentum as GDM advances the revival of this historic operation, with strong community engagement reflecting its importance to the region. Seeing the site firsthand highlighted the practical application of a clean, gravity-based processing approach, underpinned by a clear commitment to staged development, safety, and environmental responsibility.

Carat or Karat?

Let’s clear it up.

It’s easy to mix up Carat and Karat, but in the world of precious metals and gemstones, they mean very different things:

Carat (ct) – Measures the weight of gemstones like diamonds and sapphires.
One carat = Higher carat, means a heavier stone.

Karat (K or kt) – Measures the purity of gold.
24K is pure gold, 18K is 75% gold, 14K is 58.3% gold, and so on.

Carat = weight, Karat = purity.
