This is a very sophisticated phishing attempt involving Apple iPhone.

Bottom line, if you get a login confirmation request when you have not initiated it or Apple support email or a called saying from Apple just ignore them all.

Do you know who really controls your business website, domain, email, and social media logins?

I’ve seen too many small businesses caught out:
👉 One business lost everything when a family member who set it all up suddenly passed away. We managed to recover the domain and email, but the website had to be rebuilt - an expensive exercise.
👉 Another company had a manager leave on bad terms and refuse to hand over logins. It took a lot of effort to untangle.

Both situations were avoidable.

Here’s the tip: Always make sure YOU (the business owner) have access to your digital assets. Keep the logins secure but available - so if someone leaves or circumstances change, your business keeps running without interruption.

🔋 Battery Safety Matters – Don’t Ignore the Warning Signs

I was recently asked to assist a customer whose laptop had suddenly overheated and wouldn’t power back on. Upon inspection, I discovered a swollen and severely damaged battery.

💡 This wasn’t a cheap device—it was a reputable brand that had served the customer well for several years. But even quality devices aren’t immune to battery wear and the risks that come with it.

This issue isn’t just limited to laptops. We're seeing similar dangers with phones, power banks, e-bikes, and scooters. As highlighted in Information Age – News for Australia’s ICT Professionals (15/07/2025):
"Despite lavish promises by phone manufacturers that their devices can last all day on a single charge, the truth is that over time, our batteries start to give out earlier and earlier in the day."

Many of us rely on power banks to get through the day—but here’s a reality check:
📉 Since 2020, 17 types of chargers have been recalled, representing almost 35,000 potentially dangerous devices. Could one of them be in your home or office?
🛑 What to watch for:
• Devices getting unusually hot
• Batteries bulging or swelling
• Sudden shutdowns or failure to charge

Phishing Emails Are Smarter Than You Think

A client called me in a panic — they’d clicked on an email that looked like it was from MyGov.

Within an hour, someone was already trying to reset their banking password.
😨 Scary, right?

Fortunately, we had 2FA enabled and were able to block the IP address and reset all credentials quickly.

The scariest part?
The phishing email used:
✅ Their real name
✅ A legit-looking domain: mygov-alert[.]net
✅ Official-looking branding

💡 Tip: Always hover over links before clicking — and double-check the sender’s address.

Just because it looks official doesn’t mean it is.

Why Every Home Office Needs a Cybersecurity Plan

Working from home is now the norm—but so are cyber threats.

We recently helped a Perth client who unknowingly clicked a phishing link disguised as a supplier invoice. Within minutes, their personal files were locked and their business email was compromised. They didn’t have backups or multi-factor authentication (MFA) in place—basic protections that could have prevented the damage.

Cybercriminals don’t care if you’re a solo operator or a big firm. In fact, they often prefer small setups with weak defences. One client had their passwords saved in a plain text file on their desktop. Another reused the same login across work and personal accounts—which got breached in a social media leak.

A simple cybersecurity plan doesn’t need to be overkill. Start with:

🔑 Strong Passwords
Use a password manager. Never reuse logins.

☁️ Regular Backups
Automate cloud or external backups weekly.
