2005 — A Year I’ll Never Forget

I’ve had these fenders sitting in storage for years… figured it was time they finally got the respect they deserve.

2005 was a special one. Still a youth, I was lucky enough to pilot Sheza Bonnie and Okies Spark to:

• VRHA Open Derby Champion
• VRHA Non Pro Derby Champion
• VRHA Open Non Pro Champion
• QRHA Open Champion
• NRHA Open Derby Champion

But the part that means the most to me now is the journey behind it.

Sheza Bonnie was out of a Thoroughbred mare — not your typical reining-bred horse. I trained her myself, without a proper arena, before school most mornings. Just putting in the work, figuring it out as I went.

Her futurity year didn’t go to plan either… she got injured travelling to a show and missed it altogether. At the time it felt like a huge setback.

Looking back now, it was probably the making of us.

To come back the following year and achieve what we did — that’s something I’m really proud of.

And I did it all in a green checked shirt that Rob Hodgman bought me for loping horses for him at the Cutting Futurity.

At that stage, we weren’t officially part of the NRHA in the U.S., but we still had American NRHA judges coming out. It gave us a real benchmark — a chance to see where we stood on the world stage.

That year really gave me the confidence to pursue a career as a professional trainer.

Funny how something sitting in storage can bring it all back.

Grateful for where it started… and fired up for what’s still ahead.

We’d like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported, believed in, and backed us throughout the year — clients, owners, friends, and family. Your trust means more than you know.

We’re heading into the new year feeling grateful and excited, with some really nice horses in the barn and big goals ahead.
