♻️ 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 – 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 ♻️

On Wednesday 17 February 2026, Paul and Jackson from Waste Initiatives (Sydney) visited the Coonamble Waste Facility to deliver operational training on Council’s new cardboard baler machine.

The key aim of this initiative is to reduce the volume of cardboard going to landfill and help extend the operational life of the current landfill cell well into the future.

Our Waste Team — led by Glen Hamilton, Bryan Millgate and Damien Manson, with Daniel Woodard operating the skid steer — successfully separated and loaded cardboard into the baler. After several practice runs, the team proudly produced their very first completed bale — a fantastic milestone for the project!

We’re also pleased to announce a new regional partnership between Coonamble Waste and Carlinga Enterprises at Gilgandra Recycling. This collaboration will see bulk cardboard consolidated between the two organisations, helping to reduce transport costs to Western Sydney and strengthen regional cooperation.

This is a positive step forward for waste management in our Shire, with more updates to come as the initiative progresses. 🌱

💧 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 – 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘅𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 💧

Coonamble Shire Council has decided to relax water restrictions for lawn and garden watering using sprinklers and automatic irrigation systems, commencing tomorrow evening.

This relaxation applies to residents within the Coonamble township and will operate on an alternate day system, divided by the Castlereagh River:
• 🌅 East of the Castlereagh River
• 🌄 West of the Castlereagh River

Watering will be permitted between 7:00pm and 7:00am only on your allocated day.

⚠️ Please note:
This relaxation is conditional. It will only continue while the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) can maintain and produce a reasonable volume of water without putting the plant at risk of failure. If system stability declines, restrictions may be reinstated immediately.

Ratepayers of Coonamble Shire will be electing a new Council in September.

An information pack for candidates seeking election to the new Council is now available on Council's website, along with other information, at: https://www.coonambleshire.nsw.gov.au/council/local-government-elections-2024

Face-to-face candidate information sessions are planned for Gulargambone, Quambone and Coonamble between Tuesday and Thursday, 23 to 25 July, with times and venues soon to be finalised.

Blake, Anil and Matt are three new faces you'll encounter if you head out to the Coonamble Waste Management Facility on the Quambone Road.

Council has resumed direct responsibility for operations at waste facilities in Coonamble, Gulargambone and Quambone.

Blake, Anil and Matt would appreciate your help by grouping the waste that you bring out to the Coonamble facility. This will help reduce your bill.

Only mattresses, tyres and rubbish for the actual fill site will attract a fee.

Green waste, scrap metals (including whitegoods) and motor oil can be dropped separately before getting to the landfill site. DrumMuster is also in operation. Drums will only be accepted after they have been rinsed at least three times.

Residents now have the option of paying for tip use using EFTPOS. Commercial users and rural residents who do not have a roadside garbage collection service are welcome to confirm with Council that they have an account with Council so that they can streamline their use of the tip.
