PAPR - needs fit testing or not?
One of the common questions we often come across. The answer is relatively simple: if you are wearing a PAPR with a loose hood, then you do not need a fit test. Alternatively, if you are using a tight-fitting face piece with the PAPR, then you need to be fit tested.
Workers must also be clean-shaven during the fit testing and when using a tight-fitting respirator.
The photo shows a tight-fitting full-face Sundstrom SR200 piece connected to a PAPR SR500 unit. Workers using these units require fit testing.

It is a requirement to be clean-shaven for respirator fit testing and every time when using a tight-fitting respirator. If participants are not clean-shaven, IOHC will refuse to perform the fit test.
