🟦How to Approach Employee Engagement🟦

A simple definition of the term would be, how connected staff feel to your business. Are they passionate about work, having forged an emotional connection to their place in the company?

✅General Ways to Increase Engagement✅

- Define Vision and Values so staff can emotionally and ethically engage, believe in upper management’s lead, and feel comfortable in the culture of the office.🟦
-Offer Ways to Improve Skillset that span training opportunities, but also involved in events that allow for networking and industry recognition.🟦
-Listen, and Compromise to avoid a resentment-fuelled us vs them dichotomy between staff and management becoming entrenched and normalised.🟦
-Understand Money Isn’t Everything and embraces flexible working hours, reward through time off, or offer recognition with work from home days where viable.🟦
-Consider Employee Health and Wellbeing by initiating steps that address stress and anxiety in staff, whether arising from a personal or professional source.🟦
-Prioritise Community, Within and Without by encouraging team-building, including involvement with charities, and environmentally conscious office practices.🟦

✅The Importance of Feedback✅

-Listening to your employees is important, but sometimes easier said than done. While you can ask for honest commentary, reasons employees hold back may include:
-Not wishing to appear critical of the company.
-Unwillingness to complain about management.
-Avoidance of addressing problematic team dynamics.
-Hesitant to bring up personal wants and goals.
-Worried feedback may impact promotional opportunities.
-Workplace culture does not support or implement suggestions.
-Apathy or a sense of disconnect from business has set in.

✅Acting on Feedback✅

The feedback itself is only one step. Once the collated data offers insight into what could improve your staff’s workplace experience, it’s time to decide on a path, and introduce changes.
If a business ignores feedback, employee engagement will worsen. But changes that only benefit one group may increase resentment. Feedback-based initiatives need to be carefully considered.

🔵🟦Top 5 Tips To Refresh Your Business This New Year🟦🔵

1. Expect the unexpected

If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s to not get comfortable with COVID-19 normality. As we’ve seen recently, everything can change once a new strain emerges or case numbers start rising, which is why as a business owner you need to get comfortable with the uncomfortable.
It can be stressful and emotionally draining as a business owner, but if you can build a plan for 2022 with the element of uncertainty in mind, you’ll be more prepared for such situations when they arise.

2. Develop and finesse your COVID-19 crisis strategies

If you haven’t already, it might be worth using this down-time in business to develop your 2022 COVID-19 business strategies. If you have an existing plan from 2020 or 2021, consider updating it to reflect the latest COVID-19 situation and seek feedback from your team or operations head on how effective this strategy actually was.

3. Aim high! Don’t allow world events to dampen your goals.

Economic and business confidence has never been lower. In fact, a recent study conducted by Pin Payments has found that businesses are operating in ‘survival mode’ and, as such, are not investing in new tech or digitalisation due to conservatism around spending. Remaining positive in business could

actually be your saving grace in 2022, as your customers, staff and other business contacts will feed off this energy!

4. Focus on your talent

Much like business owners, staff members have been through the wringer during COVID-19 with job uncertainty at an all-time high, work hours extended, and stress levels through the roof. As such, many are feeling drained and overworked, with too few holidays due to border restrictions. With social isolation and anxiety running high, it’s important to create a sense of connectivity and appreciation within a workplace. With many people facing mental health issues, due to COVID-19, it’s never been more important to care for your staff.

5. Embrace digitalisation and tech

Last, but certainly not least, your new year’s goals should absolutely include ensuring your business stays up-to-date with the latest tech, programs, and apps for your business. Technology has been the one saving grace during the pandemic, and staff now rely heavily on it to interact, socialise and work. But make sure your goals are flexible, agile, and adaptable to change, so you’re not thrown off course if something uncertain happens throughout the year!

✅🔵🔵Apprenticeships (and traineeships) are central components of the vocational education and training system in Australia. They can be full time, part-time or school-based. School-based apprenticeships are available for secondary school students who get on-the-job training towards a formal qualification while still completing their school studies.🔵🔵✅

Benefits for an apprentice include hands-on experience as they learn a clear route to career progression and study time which is allocated within their working week. There are many benefits for employers operating apprenticeship programmes.

Hiring an apprentice or upskilling an existing employee through an apprenticeship scheme is a great way to nurture those who are keen to learn whilst growing a skilled and qualified workforce.

New apprentices will be motivated to learn from their peers and mentors as they work towards a qualification. This can be uplifting and purposeful for a team that has valuable knowledge to share. The motivation is encouraging as well.

🟦🟦Government subsidy is a helpful source of support for businesses looking to take on apprentices, of which YSP Business is also an expert. Contact us at https://yspbusiness.com.au/ for more information on how apprentices can transform your business!🟦🟦

🟦📈3 Benefits of Team Training🟦📈

Whether you’re a business owner or work for a company, attracting top talent can be a real challenge. But once you find the right people, how do you proactively equip them to do their best work? And how do you retain them as time passes? This can be an even greater challenge. The best thing you can do is invest in the development of your team.

1️⃣Training increases morale. The more you equip your employees, the more their confidence will grow. Increased confidence leads to increased morale. Everyone has probably felt like they don’t have what it takes to get the job done, or felt the imposter syndrome creep in with every new challenge. But the more you provide training for your employees, the more those feelings will subside. They’ll feel empowered to execute and advance the company goals—and be happy while doing it.

2️⃣Training reduces turnover. Without a clear and compelling company vision, employees will become confused and leave. The same is true with training. Training ensures continued alignment between a company and its employees. Ultimately, it makes employees feel more connected to the company’s vision and where things are going. No one wants to remain stagnant. Growth is part of who we are. If employees don’t feel like there are adequate opportunities to develop their current skills and learn new ones, they’re likely to leave for a place that does offer those opportunities. By training your employees, you’re communicating to them that you’re interested in their development and you’re in it for the long haul.

3️⃣Training advances company growth. Continued employee training is necessary to further the company’s goals. As you develop new products, you’ll want to ensure your employees can sell, market, or support those products. Training helps make that happen. It improves your team’s skills and job performance, which directly impacts company performance. And you’ll be able to trace the efficacy of your training to how well your products perform and move you forward.

🟦🔵Training often involves an opportunity cost. There’s a tradeoff between the training itself and the time spent participating instead of focusing on high-leverage work. But it comes down to taking the longer view. 🟦🔵

🟦🟦3 mind hacks to help you build your dream business!🟦🟦

Creating a business that works for you, instead of you working for it is the dream of many entrepreneurs.

1. Shifting your mindset ✅
A shifting mindset is the biggest block in getting your business off the ground. Getting out of your way by believing you deserve success is key to progress. You can study all the strategies in the world, attend all the right educational workshops to give you business skills and knowledge but if you don’t have the right mindset implementation will be impossible. Make sure to take the time to celebrate the little wins you have in your business. Unfortunately, it’s far too common to miss our achievements because as soon as we have overcome an issue or reached a goal we focus on the next issue or goal. Slow down and reward yourself.
Another key mindset shift is to focus on the outcome of finding a solution, instead of focusing on the difficulty of the challenge.

2. Goal Setting ✅
Many entrepreneurs either don’t know what they want or what they want is based on what they think they ‘should’ want. It’s important to ask yourself what success looks like to you. Remove all the preconceived ideas about what you think success should look like and ask yourself deeply what it is you want to achieve and what winning looks like on a day-to-day basis.

3. Create Simple Strategies ✅
Once you know that reaching your goals and building your dream life is possible, you are ready to learn that the path to fruition does not need to be hard or complicated.

Remember you want to work smarter not harder… so having simple strategies for growth is key!

The things to keep in mind when pursuing your business goals is to spend less money, reduce the risk and get there in the fastest way possible.

As a quick summary here are the three key steps into building your dream business:

● It all starts with a mindset, once you get out of your way, you will be unstoppable!

● Setting goals that truly align with who you are and what you want out of life.

● Work smarter not harder. Create a simple strategy to get you to your goals so you can stop hustling!

Three big reasons why you need to diversify your marketing strategy✅🟦📈

Got your marketing plan in place? Great! Does it include multiple channels or focus on one or two big ones? While there’s no right or wrong answer, diversifying your marketing strategy is key to marketing to your customers and ensuring presence in their buying journey.

Here are three reasons why diversifying your marketing strategy is non-negotiable:

1. It helps you address your target customers’ needs at each stage of their customer journey✅🟦

Every business should know that there is no one-size-fits-all marketing strategy. What works for one brand may not work for another. A good place to start is understanding who your target audience is, their needs and frustrations, and how you can address those needs.

2. It helps you avoid dependency on any one marketing channel✅🔵

In such a dynamic world where multiple platforms have become available for marketers, it’s almost a crime not to have an omnichannel approach. It’s great to have a strong presence on a third-party platform, i.e. Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube. But make sure to complement this with promotions in another relevant channel, say an “owned” platform like a blog or website.

Remember, each platform has its own strengths – Instagram for e-commerce, LinkedIn for thought leadership, Facebook for content and community engagement. And your customers don’t just strictly use one channel. In relation to #1, be present where your customers are.

3. It helps you generate more traffic and improve Search Engine Optimization (SEO)✅📈

Your website’s traffic comes from different sources. They can come from socials, ads from Facebook or Google, even organic or direct (people typing up your URL instead of clicking it from somewhere else).

Diversifying your traffic sources allows you to get more customers to convert from your website. When I say “convert,” I mean performing an action you want your users to take. For instance, a conversion can be in a form getting filled, an email/newsletter subscription, or an e-Commerce transaction/purchase.

When you have strong visibility on multiple channels, you are more likely to generate more traffic from converting users.

✅🟦The less you focus on one channel, and the more you tap into various channels like discussion forums, news, and media sites, the higher you will find your company in search results. And more importantly, the more your customers can find you.✅🟦

How to support your employees during lockdown✅🟦

Treat them with respect and dignity 🟦1️⃣✅
Treating people living with mental health conditions with respect and dignity can go a long way towards creating healthy and respectful relationships. Being non-judgmental can help break down any stigma or misunderstanding associated with mental health, which is crucial for long-term growth and happiness.

A good place to start is listening. The most important thing to keep in mind when listening is that you shouldn’t listen to respond; you should be listening to understand.

Offer pathways of support 🟦2️⃣✅
Support from family, friends and professionals plays a significant role in the recovery process of someone experiencing mental health issues.

When you are in a place where you understand what your colleague is experiencing, and they feel understood, it is worth having a further discussion about what additional support may be useful to them. Encouraging someone to look after their physical health by eating right, sleeping well, and regularly exercising are always good places to start.

Follow through and follow up🟦3️⃣✅
Providing ongoing emotional support and continuity of care can increase the likelihood to recover from a mental health condition. Knowing you are always there for them is crucial in helping them recover.

Admitting that you need support can be one of the hardest steps for a person with a mental health condition, so if offers of support are made, it is important to follow through with whatever action you have stated you would do.
