We've been a little quiet lately!

Free has been working on a PhD and Dan has been getting The Circus Spot back on its feet.

We are aiming to get CTA back up in 2023 but for now we want you to know about a unique teacher training opportunity.

As part of her PhD at The University of Melbourne and the Murdoch Children's Research Institute - MCRI, Free has been working with circus coaches, clinicians, and parents to design a professional development course for coaches of children aged 3-5 years.

The professional development is aimed at circus coaches who are already excellent at what they do (at least 30 hours of experience teaching this age group) - but are looking to expand their evidence-based practice. It's delivered all online (combination of self-directed learning and live Zoom workshops) - so it's accessible wherever you live.

The course is free (thanks to funding from the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation), and will be held in September 2022.

Making juggling balls is a great complimentary activity to add to a circus workshop. It's easy and will give your participants something to take home with them.

Teacher trainings winter edition is underway. We’ve had a great time with 24 students who have completed courses this weekend.
All our gratitude goes out to the new faces who joined us on Saturday for brain overload day aka circus foundations (our theoretical focused course). Today 19 students tackled level 1 silks, hoop and trapeze.
Meanwhile we’ve also welcomed back coaches who are now tackling the level 8 and 9 of our silks and hoop curriculum.

**** EXPERIENCED TUMBLING COACH NEEDED ****

Details below. To apply please follow this link and complete the form: https://thecircusspot.typeform.com/to/wMel8S

------------------------------------

The Circus Spot is looking for an experienced Tumbling coach to work with intermediate and advanced students from 9 - 17 years old. We are seeking someone who is hugely passionate about technique and skills progressions and variations for this age group.

You must have a proven history of teaching tumbling to kids and need to be very comfortable teaching round-offs, front and back handsprings, aerial cartwheels, front and back saults, and lots of variations and progressions from these skills. The shift will also include a Strength and Conditioning class including dynamic stretching for adult students, so you need to be up to date with best practise in these areas too.

As we are based in Pascoe Vale, coaching at The Circus Spot is most suitable to someone living in the Northern Suburbs. Must be available from 4pm - 8:30pm on Tuesday nights.

If you have experience teaching Acrobalance and other circus skills, additional work may be available on Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays (4pm - 8pm).

What non-aerial things do you do? By cross-training you can boost your overall fitness (and therefore efficiency, endurance and power in aerials).

But how do you choose your cross training activity? In this new post on our blog, we explore why you should cross-train, and what you should look for in an activity to compliment your aerial training.

Time is precious, but the benefits to cross-training are significant. If you choose your cross-training wisely, you can boost your overall fitness (and therefore efficiency, endurance and power in aerials) by increasing your total amount of exercise per week, but without overloading your joints from...

Teaching beginners is arguably the most challenging demographic. Each student may be brand-new to the apparatus, but they bring with them a lifetime of experience in other sports and physical expression. (Yep, even 6 year olds have previous experiences). To ensure the long term success of your program, it is important to teach foundations well. While at the same time recognising each students background and individual needs.

WHY TEACH TRAPEZE?
- Trapeze is satisfyingly ‘circus’! Students will get a kick out of achieving skills they have seen in movies and circus's
- Static Trapeze is the most accessible aerial apparatus for both children and adults alike
- Beginner skills on Trapeze are closely related to many of the basic techniques for Aerial Hoop
- Trapeze is fun, and very rewarding for students regardless of their fitness levels
