A free weekly briefing on what actually moved on the Western Australian tenement register. The first issue is live.

Not company announcements. Ground.

This week:
- 30,425 tenements live or pending across the state
- 10 registered transfers, 12 holders releasing ground, 5 companies new to WA
- Tali Exploration handed back 123,070 ha in the East Pilbara, the largest package back on the market
- Coolgardie drew the most new applications, 12 from 7 different holders

The sections I built it for are further down. Ground already surrendered with no competing application showing on the register. Five parcels with real scheduled release dates between 7 and 21 August. And who picked up whose dropped ground, and how fast: Red Centre pegged 52,314 ha in the East Pilbara, almost all of it ground Agrimin released three to eight days earlier.

That last one is the whole thesis. Tenure in WA is nuggety. Follow the ground, not the company.

The timing is accidental, but it will do. Half the industry is in Kalgoorlie this week talking about deals. This is the register underneath the deals.

Built from public DMPE data plus our own feeds, published every week. Verify against the register before you act on anything, as always.

New in NextMaps: the Map Explorer agent.

Ask it what you want to see, and it figures out the layers, filters, and settings to get you there. No manual digging through menus.

In the video: "show me expiring tenements near Wiluna." It turns on the expiry timeline, locates the area, and flags the final-term prospecting licences worth watching. From there you explore on your own terms.

It works with NextMaps' pre-built verified layers rather than querying the raw data directly. The tenement dataset is complex enough that a straight database query leads you astray fast. The layers already have the domain logic and expertise baked in.

It's built for people who are new to the platform and not sure where to start, but honestly it's just faster for everyone, including myself sometimes!

Anyone here spend time researching ground before heading out?

We just launched AI Prospectivity Reports on NextMaps, enter any WA tenement or draw an area on the map, and within minutes you get a full desk study built from every WAMEX report ever filed for that ground. Geological setting, work history, what was found, what was missed, all the original A-file PDFs included.

Every free account gets a focused commodity report at no cost, so if you're eyeing ground for alluvial gold, you can run a report targeting alluvial gold specifically and see exactly what the historical record says before you commit to anything.

No subscription needed to try it. nextmaps.com.au

This layer scores every WA tenement across five risk signals: forfeiture notices, rent overdue, expenditure compliance, upcoming expiry, and encumbrances, and surfaces the ones accumulating multiple problems at once.

The example below is E 69/3594, part of the Kalium Lakes Beyondie SOP project.

It is probably the most distressed tenement in the whole of WA.

Distress score: 6.

If you followed WA mining news you'll know the story, A$450M+ raised, Australia's first domestic SOP fertiliser producer, federal government NAIF funding, German export bank financing. By August 2023 it was in voluntary administration with A$201M in drawn debt and roughly 2,500 tonnes of actual production against a 170,000 tpa target. The Beyondie plant was eventually sold for A$2.13M.

The tenements tell that story too. Rent overdue, forfeiture notice issued, severely underspent, mortgaged, a distress score that flags exactly the kind of situation a prospective acquirer or neighbouring explorer would want to know about before making a move.

That's what this layer is.

Beyond the raw registry information, I've built a suite of new spatial layers designed to surface actionable intelligence for anyone working in WA exploration or tenement management. Registry intelligence is also included in full detail in downloadable datapack reports for any tenement.

All layers are available today, ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ž๐ž, at www.nextmaps.com.au, and I'll be posting a quick example from each one every day this week.

First up: ๐€๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐…๐จ๐ซ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ข๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž ๐๐จ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ž๐ฌ
This layer shows tenements currently subject to an active forfeiture notice, lodged but not yet finalised or withdrawn.

A forfeiture notice can be issued for three reasons:
-Expenditure non-compliance
-Rent non-compliance
-Reporting non-compliance

If you're buying, partnering, or competing, knowing who's under forfeiture pressure is a real edge.

The screenshot below shows that even the big players aren't immune. Northern Star Resources has been issued an expenditure non-compliance notice after their exemption request was refused last month. A fine could well be next.

MTO Tenement Registry is now in NextMaps ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

weโ€™ve now integrated the MTO tenement register directly into the

can view (updated daily) key tenement information like:

โ€ข Expenditure

โ€ข Dealings

โ€ข Holder changes

โ€ข Rent

โ€ข Conditions and more

All of it is now accessible in a spatial, geo-rich WA environment, so you can interrogate registry data in context rather than digging through static records.

Just click a tenement of interest and you'll see the new "Open Register" button at the top of the results panel.

The derivative layers and deeper analytics off this dataset are still a work in progress (coming very soon) but the raw power is already there for those who want to explore it.

As always, if you spot any issues or inconsistencies, let me know, this is still very much a one-man build (going on 9 months now!) and feedback genuinely helps improve it.

Access to Nextmaps is STILL FREE!
