🤖 Using AI in your business? Here’s something worth adding to your radar.

One of my big takeaways from the conference was around AI, privacy and making sure our business policies are keeping up with the technology we’re using.

From 10 December 2026, new privacy transparency requirements come into effect for APP entities using personal information in certain automated decision-making processes that could significantly impact someone’s rights or interests.

For businesses that fall within these rules, privacy policies will need to explain things such as the types of personal information being used and the types of decisions being made or assisted by computer programs.

And with AI becoming part of so many everyday business tools, it’s a good reminder to actually understand what technology you’re using and how information is being handled. 💻

Think of it like adding a new employee to the team. You wouldn’t give them access to everything without first thinking about what they need, what they can access and what rules they should follow. 🔐

I’m definitely not a lawyer, so this isn’t legal advice. But it has prompted me to review my own AI use and policies, and it might be worth having the same conversation with your legal or privacy professional. 💛

AI can save us a huge amount of time, but good systems and responsible use need to come along for the ride.

📚 Knowing what needs to be done with your bookkeeping is one thing. Knowing how to actually do it is another.

That’s something I see all the time in my one-on-one training. Business owners aren’t necessarily looking for someone to take everything off their hands. Sometimes they just want a clear process they can follow confidently themselves. 💛

That’s exactly why I created my Bookkeeping Basics course for Xero and MYOB.

It covers the foundations of managing your own books, from getting your accounting file set up properly and connecting your bank feeds, through to allocating transactions, managing your chart of accounts, catching up on previous data and properly reconciling your bank.

And if something doesn’t balance? 🔎 You’ll learn where to look and how to start finding the problem.

Think of it like having a recipe beside you in the kitchen 🧑🍳 You can follow the steps, pause when you need to, go back if something doesn’t make sense, and eventually feel confident enough to do it without constantly second guessing yourself.

There are also notes and resources included because we all learn differently. Some of us need to watch it, some need to read it, and some need to do both three times 😂

✈️ Queensland bound and very excited for a week of learning!

One of my favourite parts of running a bookkeeping business is finding better ways to do things and then bringing those ideas back to my clients. 💛

At the moment, I’m especially interested in how AI, automation and the right apps can make bookkeeping more efficient without losing the accuracy and compliance that really matter.

This has become even more valuable with the rescue bookkeeping work I’ve been doing lately. Sometimes a business might be six months behind, sometimes it’s a couple of years, and sometimes there hasn’t been a proper bookkeeping system in place at all.

It can feel like one giant tangled ball of wool 🧶 but once we work through it piece by piece, there’s always a way forward. Everything’s fixable.

The right software, better processes and smart automation can make a huge difference, and I’m looking forward to learning even more at this conference. 🤖✨

And of course, I’ll be bringing plenty of what I learn back here to share with you, so stay tuned for more tips, ideas and reels!

BAS myth: "You just add up your GST and lodge it." 😅

If only it were that simple.

Here's what actually goes into a BAS:

→ Making sure your bank is reconciled first
→ Checking every transaction is coded to the correct GST treatment
→ Understanding the difference between GST on income and GST on expenses
→ Knowing what goes in each field — and why
→ Checking your figures actually make sense before you submit

It's not rocket science. But it's definitely more than just adding up your GST.
